Totally misconfigured Firefox

Post by Al_H »

Hi, yesterday I was browsing through several forums and when I entered into one of them a pop up screen appeared asking me to enter mail and "reconfigure" firefox. Of course I did not but when I tried to close the screen, it allow me, so after some trial and error, seeing that I was blocked, I decided to close firefox through Win 10 task manager.

Today I opened Firefox and for every site I tried (including google, etc) FF showed "security exception, unknown certificate" etc.

So, I decided to refresh FF.
I had some trouble to do so, so I directly uninstalled it, (used the CCleaner soft to clear everything after) downloaded a new version and started again. When I entered for the first time after the reinstalled a bar appeared asking if I wanted to refresh, and I said yes, so it did its thing and restarted again.

To my surprise, the thing does not work well still. If I try to enter a site I get still the "security exception".. so I have to accept it as an exception.
Fuerthermore, there are sites that do not work (i.e Linkedin), in which I do not manage to load the page properly..... it logs in but then the layout appears as if it was an old HTLM with the menu at the side and the rest of the page blank.

So, what do I do?.... the only thing I am really interested from the old profile are the passwords. I dont care about history or bookmarks (I have them backedup), but I do not know to really refresh an and start this thing from scratch.

Any suggestions?

I run FF last version,. Win 10 updated, Kasperry antivirus.

security exception
again and still Kaspersky - deactivate ssl scanning - firefox knows better than all the rest.

CCleaner on firefox? never ever, uninstall!

refresh has disadvantages - long story short:

It was much simpler than that... simply the certificate file "cert.db" was corrupted.

I deleted it and now everything works

I had the exact same problem. THANK you so much for the solution. I did just what you did and now FF works fine. I was getting very frustrated.
Thanks again

hmm, firefox dont use any "cert.db" - up to firefox 57 it is cert3.db, from v58 its cert4.db.
damage is not common, check your drive eg with CrystalDiskInfo or checkdsk (explorer context on drive -> tools)
