How to REVERT BACK to a previous version of FF?

Post by Linda Latte »

Hi,

I "up-graded" from Ver. 47.0.2 to 'Quantum.' BAD BAD mistake! I lost ALL of the add-ons, about 10, that I use daily! :( HOW can I revert BACK? :)

I found a download for the previous version and got it. But, when I installed it NONE of my add-ons, and none of 100 or so links were there. :( It was a total BLANK and therefore unusable.

HOW to 'revert back' AND get all the previous data on the Viewer? :D

Thank you,

Linda

The only older version that continues to get security updates is Firefox ESR. Upgrading and downgrading use the same profile so with luck the addons and whatever else should reactivate just by installing Firefox ESR: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/ In a few months it will attempt to upgrade to Firefox 60, you will want to set it to ask if you want updates and you do want the 52.x updates, but you may have hesitation about the 60 update.

The official warnings and suggestions about downgrading are here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/in ... of-firefox

Note that there are replacements for add-ons for many functions. For example, adblocking is possible with Ublock Origin, bulk downloading has Download Star.

PS if when you say links you mean bookmarks, whenever upgrading, Firefox should always keep bookmarks. Maybe you mean something like the bookmarks toolbar is not shown by default? But the bookmarks should still be there if you open the sidebar with ctrl-B or any of the other 3 or 4 ways to see bookmarks. And the bookmarks toolbar can be set to visible by right clicking near the top of the screen.

from Ver. 47.0.2
that must fail.

This article explains how to selectively transfer Firefox user data and settings to a new Firefox profile
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... _-_Firefox

or reset your firefox profile to keep bookmarks and other stuff, read here please
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/re ... d-settings
(keeping bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, form data aso.)

Firefox - only those two options
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/o ... tions/all/

you probably wont get a link from responsible helpers to any other because any other build is either outdated and vulnerable.

but remember - the ESR builds wont last until july 2018, then they would also be dead and people have to change browser or stick with a quantum build (would be firefox 60 esr). quantum either now or later.

if you miss extension for quantum you should write down another request for help to find replacements.
note: no extension is it worth to lower security for the personal comfort, unless you give a damn on your money or personal data on your computer because you were hacked.

Hi,

THANK YOU !!! THANK YOU so much for the ABOVE !!! I was able to download the 'ESR Build' and install it. I got my missing links all back and my bookmarks.

May I ask?
BUT BUT
#1 I cannot set, in the Advanced menu, my choice of DO NOT UPDATE! :( The 3 choices given are FROZEN and 'ALWAYS UPDATE' is chosen. :( What can I do to get around THAT choice that I do not want?
#2 When the ESR version first started up I got a list of up-dates to choose from. Many of my old add-ons were listed! Yay! I chose 'Reminder Fox' as it was my most used one. I then clicked install it, and then restarted FF ESR to try Reminder Fox. It ran fine, but about 30 menu items were gone. The old menu items of 'what to do and when' did not appear. :( Any idea HOW to recover them?
I no longer have the option to restore my old add-ons as THAT screen did not show after I re-started. :(

Any ideas? Can I get an earlier FF, prior to the 'ESR Build' that may lock DENY me the ability to NOT up-date in the future?

THANK YOU !!

Hi allande !!

I accidentally sent a reply to YOUR kind post to the NEXT gentleman down, a Mr. brummelchen. I sorry, and apologize. :) Your info got me back, at least, to FF ESR, but I did lose a lot in the process. I finally WAS able to get FF ESR to allow me to choose DO NOT UPDATE. An automatic up-date is preferred by some, but not me. I have excellent security software that has kept every single bit of malware and rootkits OFF of my Win 10 PC for years. I value my add-ons far more than the possibility some chuck of malware may sneak thru. I need the add-ons for my work, and FF's latest 'up-date' is, to me, JUNK. It kills ALL of my apps in exchange for faster switching between URLs. I don't value speed above my add-ons. :) I'll just get a coke or coffee while a page loads, if I have to. :)

THANK YOU and THANK YOU!
