UnMHT

Post by JW01 »

I am trying to do an offline install of UnMHT 8.3.2 to Firefox 57.0.4 but it says the add-on cannot be verified. Any ideas?
Many thanks.

Not sure why it says that it cannot be verified but the AMO page for that extension clearly states "Not compatible with Firefox Quantum."

I have installed Firefox 56 and UnMHT 7.3.0.5.
It provides a Save Page As option of xht or xhtml, which I guess would be acceptable. However, it only provides this option for the Firefox home page and not for any other page.
Can anyone tell me what is wrong or alternatively what combination of Firefox and UnMHT will work? I don’t need the latest Firefox, just one that can give me mht output.
Many thanks.

You should not use Firefox 56 as it includes known security issues. If you won't use the current version (58.0.1) at least switch to Firefox ESR which does include the security fixes but retains functionality with the legacy extensions -- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/sw ... elease-esr

I don't believe that Firefox security is an issue since I am trying to get mht functionality on my desktop which doesn't even have a network card. I don't need it on my online laptop.
Since 57 doesn't support UnMHT I am assuming that 58 doesn't either.
Therefore I am prepared to install any earlier release that supports UnMHT fully.
All I want to know is which release of Firefox and which release of UnMHT.

OK. According to the AMO page again, "Version 8.3.2 Released June 10, 2017 506.6 KiB Works with Firefox for Android 38.0 - 56.*, Firefox 38.0 - 56.*, SeaMonkey 2.33 - 2.39.*, Thunderbird 38.0 - 55.* " So it should work with version 56.x. See if the user manual is helpful in getting it to work for you -- http://www.unmht.org/unmht/en_usage-8.0.0.html

You'd think it would work but it doesn't.
However, I have found a way which preserves the appearance of the original:
1 Use Chrome's hidden Save Page to MHTML function (which disallows saving to HTML but that doesn't matter) to save the file on my online laptop.
2 Use Firefox 47 with UnMHT 7.3.0.5 to read the file on my offline desktop.
3 Make Chrome and Firefox the respective defaults, so one click each.
Antediluvian but it works.

firefox 47 is a very bad ide, go esr instead to avoid some more trouble
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/o ... tions/all/
v47 is very outdated to common websites and most vulnerable
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/security/ ... efox58.0.1

you wont find acceptance to v47.
the magic number is 51 and you are probably part of it :p

But I only use it on my offline desktop so I don't care.
The mhtml file is created by Chrome on the laptop and stored on memory stick, then offloaded on the desktop where it is read by Firefox.

it does not matter where you use it - its vulnerable and mht files could contain a lot of crap as type "archive".
and in fact it makes no matter for usage or extensions. if you wont try it you never will have experience about.

The version of Chrome which creates the mhtml file on my online laptop is the latest version. It operates inside Sandboxie where the created file can be scanned for nasties before it is loaded onto the memory stick.
The stick is transferred to my offline desktop where the file can be scanned again.

i dont care about chrome. from my view mht and mhtml are futile archive formats, weather a browser still supports it or not. the majore problem behind ist that both formats dont save pages complete, there is always some elemental files missing. as a former user of MAFF i can also say that saving "complete" als html+files is also "not complete" thats why i started printing as pdf or straight to screenshot (firefox feature). when i want to read offline i use a professional offline reader such as metaproducts inquiry or offline explorer - ofc paid products. i used to use tenmax teleport pro but development stopped 2015 and it always had bugs. inquiry is able to load "complete" or link to the web - and its still under development: http://www.metaproducts.com/

Inquiry also stopped as i see in 2015, was the cheaper choice. the new flag ship is Offline Explorer which is more expensive, pity. Inquiry is able to export as mht
https://metaproducts.com/products/inqui ... n/features

there exist more web spiders to archive pages.

Interesting information.
I used to use Teleport Pro too.
What do you believe is missing in mht/mhtml files? They look OK to me.
