Firefox occasionally hangs when searching / accessing google

Occasionally Firefox will hang "Waiting for http://www.google.com.sg... on my desktop PC (currently running Ubuntu 17.10).

I've seen various other threads concerning Firefox hanging when accessing certain sites. I've tried all the various suggestions of safe mode and disabling extensions. I held out for Quantum to see if this would resolve the problem. Nope! I use Firefox synce'd across multiple devices and this is the one gripe I have with it.

Any suggestions on how I can finally diagnose this, beyond using safe mode or disabling extensions? e.g. any logging that can be enabled?
