NEWTAB SETTING ??? Previous settings lost??

Post by bobr2k »

When I updated to 58.0.1 firefox seems to have lost my previous settings. I've change the new page setting to use my home page but my setting gets ignored even though it's right there in about:config. browser.newtab.url
What is happening? Do I have to make other adjustments to get my homepage instead of a bunch of crap that doesn't really apply anymore. Hooray for history when I need it but not just for fun!

If it aint broke don't fix it ... seems like Firefox is taking a nosedive !!

To set a custom page or use your home for the new tab page you need an extension. This is one of the possible ones: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... -override/

Hi,

Would you consider using this extension ?

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... -override/

Under 'About this extension' you'll see why the 'browser.newtab.url' preference on the 'about:config' page is no longer used.

As was noted more than two years ago :!: that config setting was deprecated due to security issues -- http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14368397

Thanks for the feedback. Didn't know about the security issue. I try to avoid extensions for that same reason - concern for security.
