Freeze and crash problems

Post by Melissa2009B »

This has been going on for way too long with SM. I'm on Facebook or elsewhere, I click on something, or am typing something, and suddenly it freezes and the screen goes pale and stays that way. Then I have to close SM, which it says is "not responding", by any means possible.

Any ideas why this happens? I'm sick of it.

What extensions are you using?
How much memory are you using at those times?
Any change if you run in Safe Mode?
Fire 750, bring back 250.

All the extensions have disappeared and when I search for add-ons, I always get no results. But this was going on before that, too.

I'm confused about safe mode. Windows safe mode?

Will things get messed up if I do that?

I'm also having problems with not being able to use this site, and it may have to do with the add ons problem now - nothing to view animations with?

Works OK but you need Flash Player plugin:
http fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/pdc/28.0.0.137/install_flash_player.exe

It is wise to set it to "Always ask to activate" (in Add-ons Manager).

Setting Flash Player to click to activate works on that radar page.

That needs to be http:// but thanks.

It says it installed it, but still, nothing is showing up in my add-ons and the search feature in there always returns nothing.

I already had Adobe Flash Player on my PC but it wasn't installed on SM. So I ran the download just now and it still doesn't show that it's installed on SM, and the weather site still doesn't work.

Flash for IE is different from Flash for "Mozilla" (in simple terms), & is yet again different from Flash for Chrome.
You need to have the correct version for the respective browser.
Likewise each needs to be installed, separately.

(In your case, Flash updates for IE come via MS rather then Adobe.)

This, https:// fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/latest/help/install_flash_player.exe (purposely broken) is a better link to use (for "Mozilla") rather then the specific version number mentioned above (as the above will be "stale" with the next update [though is valid currently] where the link here should always be current.

But it specifically said it was for SM and was installing in SM.

And why doesn't the search feature in the add-ons menu work anymore?

Anyway, I just used your latest link, ran the install, and no plugins show up in add-ons, and the weather radar still does nothing.

Did Mozilla trash this version of SM?

Mozilla does not make or maintain SeaMonkey as it is done by a SeaMonkey community as a continuation of the old Mozilla suite that Mozilla discontinued after Mozilla 1.7.13.

If SeaMonkey (same with Firefox if running) was still running when you install the NPAPI Flash Player from Adobe, make sure to either restart SeaMonkey or at least type about:plugins with a : in the Location (address) bar for SeaMonkey to scan for current NPAPI Plugins to use. Plugins are installed on system and not in SeaMonkey or Firefox whether on Windows, Mac OSX, or Linux.

Here you can check if Flash Player was installed:
1) system's list of installed programs/applications
2) installation folder:
c:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\
with files such as:
FlashUtil32_28_0_0_137_Plugin.dll
FlashUtil32_28_0_0_137_Plugin.exe
NPSWF32_28_0_0_137.dll

If they are there you can make some "dirty trick" - copy "NPSWF32_28_0_0_137.dll" file to "c:\Program Files (x86)\SeaMonkey\plugins\" folder.
Before this make sure "seamonkey.exe" process is not running (hit "Ctrl+Shift+Esc" for Task Manager and search).
In old versions of SeaMonkey/Mozilla Suite there was place for plugins. Maybe it will help now.

I am having the same problems as Melissa and it seems like it's getting worse. Facebook really messes with my hard drive. I can hear it spinning its little heart out, the screen freezes, goes white, "not responding" etc. It's also slow responding when in the mail client, delayed commands like when I try to delete an email, delayed when typing one etc. Yet if I use Chrome as my browser, no problems at all and FB works fine. Irritating.

Here's my list of Extensions:
Adblock Plus 2.9.1
Chatzilla 0.9.93
DOM Inspector 2.0.16.1
Javascript Debugger 0.9.89.1-signed-1-signed
True Full Screen in SM 1.1.5
YouTube Flash Video Player 54.0.1

Here's my list of Plugins:
Adobe Acrobat 18.9.20044.55097
Google Update 1.3.33.7
Microsoft Office 2010 14.0.4730.1010 (Auth Plugin for NPAPI browser)
Microsoft Office 2010 14.0.4761.1000 (Open edit files using MS Office)
NVIDIA 3D vision for Mozilla browsers 7.17.13.7654
NVIDIA 3D streaming plugin 7.17.13.7654
Silverlight 5.1.50907.0
Quick Time Plugin 7.6.9 (has a "blocked" warning so appears blocked)
Shockwave Flash 21.0.0.213 (says to "update now" on warning)

Suggestions? Should I go ahead and update the Shockwave Flash plugin as it says to?
