Help me choose an (or any) extension for SeaMonkey 2.49.2

Post by saurabhdua82 »

Hello!

Using the latest version of SeaMonkey vide 2.49.2

Almost all extensions are showing up as 'greyed out' ! ...& Iam unable to find any for the purpose of Ad-blocking !? :(

Please help me find one which is still active & functional with this latest release of SeaMonkey?

Inputs will be sincerely appreciated.

Thank you.

Make a start with this one - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamon ... seamonkey/

...and things will make a lot more sense when looking on AMO.

If you edit the install.rdf file inside the .xpi file, and increase the max version number for the target application, then reinstall the add-on manually, you will no longer have that problem.

Yes, and someone with just one post on this forum is going to be able to understand any of that?

Especially, if you had looked at it, the extension linked to above will additionally also do precisely that automatically, if the user requests it.

Thanks for this reference.

I must admit that despite installing the same..finding a suitable extension wasn't a cakewalk !

Nevertheless, could you please suggest on the 'Most Up-to-date Ad-blocker' functional with this SeaMonkey still?

I managed to settle with some old version of ABP after going through the maze of dysfunctional / inactive populars in this field !

Sure, you want version 1.13.8 of this one - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefo ... ck-origin/

...Just go to the bottom where it says 'Version Information' and all the previous versions are listed there.

Appearances are wrong.

You didn't study that extension in depth, I reckon. Put this in your addressbar and press Enter. - chrome://amobrowsing/content/search.html?q=cookie&host=addons.mozilla.org&type=extension&sort=relevance&app=seamonkey

There is a link to that special search, provided by the extension, in the top right of every AMO page.

Thank you Frank Lion!

I have installed the last compatible version of uBlock origin, & as far as I understand....there won't be any updates in the future for this extension! Right?

Nevertheless, good to have one than none ! :-)

uBlock0.firefox.xpi should work. I am running 1.14.24 right now but read about some compatibility problems in later releases (so far I didn't encounter one).

The ad-blocking filter lists get automatically updated all the time in any version - those are the important bits.

Non-commercial addons* (like mine and this one) get updated only when updating is needed and serves a purpose. You can check the state of play, via the Addons Manager. I choose to manually update (cog icon to left of searchbar there and select addons update manually) and still get notified of any updates available, but whatever suits you.

Btw - even after 4 years of using SM, I only use 10 extensions and 2 of them are specialised tools that most users wouldn't need. So, it's not like this extension hunt goes on forever.

* commercial addons and programs (inc. Firefox) update a lot whether they need to or not, just to keep in the public eye and appear 'relevant'.

I am now using uBlock Origin 1.15.6 without any problem. I got it from the github site.

Thanks for this info & thread ! :)

After posting a new topic just awhile ago, I stumbled upon this. Why search didn't reveal this thread is a mystery.

I was able to get 1.15.24 to work from github site. Not sure if there is any later version. I'll check back if there is.

P.S. I posted that recent topic in support. Perhaps that's why it didn't come up when searching for ublock.

Why search didn't reveal this thread is a mystery.
Better mystery is why a 2018 thread was bumped, in particular when what was at that point absolutely does not apply to what is, today.

PS: uBlock-for-firefox-legacy, 1.16.4.21.
