Not remembering last save location

I am running Windows 10, firefox 58.0.2 (64-bit).
Ive just upgraded my system, motherboard cpu graphics card etc
Now I find that when I save something, firefox no longer remembers the location where I last saved.

Did you check the setting for that in Firefox? Tools->Options->Files and Applications->check the "Save files to" and select a target?

I Have "Always ask you where to save files" because I save to different folders all the time. But it just keeps going back to downloads.

In the location bar, enter about:config then press Enter. In the search field, enter "browser.download.useDownloadDir" (without the quotation marks). Make sure that setting is set to "False". If it is not, double click on the displayed entry to toggle it to false. Close and relaunch Firefox and see if the problem is resolved.

Yes it is false but sitll keeps going to download folder

Have you tried starting Firefox in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
If no improvement using Safe Mode, do you have the same problem if you create a new profile and test it with no extensions or non-default themes installed?

Are you using Private Browsing mode or are you using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the Site Preferences?

I dont have Private browsing on.
I do have "Clear history when Firefox closes" on

It is a fresh windows 10 install and a fresh firefox installating and mozbackup used to install info

Also in safe mode it doesnt appear to happen, but if I turn off all addons in normal mode it still happens

If the issue is not there using Safe Mode, do you have the same problem if you create a new profile and test it with no extensions or non-default themes installed?
