Re: Update issue.
use 52esr or use quantum (current v58). you wont find any responsible member here which give other options - only fools do that (for their own some dont care, but not for others)

Re: Update issue.
An easy and certain way to prevent Firefox from updating one Firefox folder is here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... &t=3036318
Note - if you have Firefox installed in two or more locations they might have different versions. If you continue to have problems search your hard drive for firefox.exe to make sure it isn't installed in multiple places.

Re: Update issue.
Should the updates folder's permissions (all) be changed to READ ONLY so it wont update?

Re: Update issue.
I believe the whole folder (not only the update subfolder) should be read only.

It doesn't look like you read through the entire article I linked to above.

Re: Update issue.
Has anyone confirmed that this actually works, other than just waiting for it not to happen? If so, what was the method used?normally the problem is that people check the version using the menu
menu => Help => About Firefox
If you do that then Firefox will report the current version AND check for and initiate an update.
If you set Firefox to not update then as long as you do not do that it should not update. If you wish to check the version without updating Firefox key about:support in to the address bar so that you obtain the troubleshooting information.
And note the text in the quote in bold, specifically the words "should not".
Browsers that don't have a conventional horizontal Menu bar (where it's been for 25 years) are poorly designed. Period. Stop 'fixing' something that isn't broke!

Hardly something to brag about, and hardly something to encourage people to offer you support in the future.
