Seamonkey Browser starts very slowly

Post by Mate_MAtic »

Good Morning,

Since a few weeks, I have a delay while starting Seamonkey. I have to wait some seconds when I open the application in Windows 10.
It looks like a white/empty website, although Seamony should start with the Google website.
Within this time, I'm not able to click buttons or open menues - it seems like Seamonkey has suspended.

Where can I find out, which processes Seamonkey executes at startup. Perhaps this will bring the solution to me.

Regards

Upgrade to 2.49.2 and read the known issues bullet 3 in the release notes.

Is this release compatible to my german language version?
I don't want to risk a damage caused by a wrong update.

Ok, I've checked it and will try this. Thanks a lot.

Looks like KaiRo didn't update the page yet.

If in doubt check https://www.seamonkey-project.org/

Upgrading to 2.49.2 will only give you the latest version but probably not fixing the safebrowsing lists problem. So still check the release notes.

Re: Update was going wrong

Post by Mate_MAtic »

Ok, I've downloaded and installed the new release. Unfortunately, the installer has created a new profile folder at the path:

Code: Select all

C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles
Though my profile and mails are stored in:

Code: Select all

C:\Users\Mate\AppData\Local\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles
What have I done wrong? I only wanted the installer to update my so far installation at the folder

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files (x86)\SeaMonkey

By default your profile should be placed there:

Code: Select all

c:\Users\Mate\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\
"Roaming" not "Local". And when you want to do backup then use e.g. 7-Zip on SeaMonkey in AppData\Roaming folder.

Seamonkey Browser starts very slowly

The update seems to have worked. Seamonkey shows "Version 2.49.2", but the behavoir at startup hasn't changed.
Seamonkey still stops loading the starting page for some seconds (looks like an empty website).

Ok, thanks for this hint. I have installed the PC several months ago and set up Seamonkey absolutely normal. After this I restored my profile and mails with MozBackup.
So I haven't changed the folder path.
Besides, the setup.exe of the newest Seamonkey version (the update try two days ago) installed the profile at the same path, but for admin:
C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Mozilla\SeaMonkey - not Roaming.

By the way:
Is there no update option inside of Seamonkey?
I don't want to download the complete installer and make mistakes like you can see above (execute as admin and create new profiles etc.).
I only want to update my Seamonkey installation.
