I've spent a good bit of time in help menus and googling but to no help. Is there not a global shortcut in Windows 10 for a new TB message?
For example, I'm browsing the internet on Firefox and remember I need to email someone. Without leaving Firefox (or even having TB running) there should be a keyboard shortcut like CTRL+ALT+M or something similar that will bring up a TB new message window.
So far, I'm having no luck finding one. Thanks in advance for the help.

Try Alt+F then Alt+E to launch Thunderbird to the compose window. It will initially include a link to the web page you were viewing when you started TB but you can delete that link and compose your own message in its place.

Try creating your own shortcut key in Windows 10.
Target:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -compose
Shortcut key: Ctrl + Shift + M
