replacement for "save file to" addon
I'm looking for an addon that puts an option to the standard dialog for downloading a file in te way that one can specify additional directories to download to, like the addon "save file to" did
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... e-file-to/
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... e-file-to/

Hi,
After a quick search, I found this extension that may suit...

There's also a thread for the old extension...

Re: replacement for "save file to" addon
there is no longer an automatic sorting possible.
FYI firefox stores the destination path per domain if changed (from default)

It's not able to do what I need: I need a modification of the Download dialog window, like in the first screenshot of the "save file to" addon

Re: replacement for "save file to" addon
You save a file from mozillazine & save it to C:\out\.
You save a file from youtube & save it to C:\vids\.
Both destinations are remembered - per site.
So the next time you save a file from mozillazine, it defaults to saving in C:\out\.
And the next time you save a file from youtube, it defaults to saving in C:\vids\.

Fire 750, bring back 250.

Re: replacement for "save file to" addon
ok,thanks.
and what if I don't have a chance to select.
if the window only provides the following two possibilities:
- select the application to open the file with
- save file (without the possibility to specify a folder)

Re: replacement for "save file to" addon
sounds like you don't get my problem.
I'm clicking on a link that provides me with whatever file. this causes a dialog window to open that leaves only two possibilities mentioned above.
as to my understanding a download manager is involved only after that action, which is too late

Re: replacement for "save file to" addon
i wrote you earlier:
your previous extension has modified firefox behavior in a not acceptable way for mozilla. currently.
maybe they change it some day but for not, again: you have to deal with it.
quantum is different, you can extend it but cant make it work different.
if you need the previous handling just install 52esr, you have time until august'18 when 52esr is complete dropped dead. some users took this choice and its ok.
quantum has a lot of more limitations to prevent misbehave due users stupidity (in general, not special).there is no longer an automatic sorting possible.

Re: replacement for "save file to" addon
Hi,
I was in the process of saying that Free Download Manager gives you the options of where to save the files to...
but wasn't sure if it would work on LINUX.
Apparently, it does.

Re: replacement for "save file to" addon
If you open the link and it starts the download process in Linux using Ubuntu or Linux Mint as an example - Firefox version 59+ you have two places to make adjustments.
Opening /edit/preferences/general/Files and Applications/ Downloads you can check or use the button to set "Always ask where to save files"
The other setting is in the applications chart of the various file types underneath and all that should be needed is to set the file type to "Always ask."
This is the default and when the panel comes up you can go through the tree on your system.
In some case you may need to set the system file manager to "show hidden files"
If you are using something like Nautilus, Caja, Dolphin or one of the others it should be in the preferences for the system manager.
If this is something else disregard this post.
