Still getting 5-30 second freeze-ups in the rendering process for images.google.com when having done several searches and scrolling top to bottom. It isn't consistent, but it usually happens after scrolling through the images of several image searches. It is the specific rendering process that goes to full CPU (Windows 7 Task Manager shows 25%, which represents the equivalent of one whole core on this 4-core machine). Memory usage seems reasonable with 3 GB physical RAM still available on this 8GB machine.

Other content processes are unaffected (this is one of the reasons I prefer each tab to have its own content process, so I have dom.ipc.processCount set to 10) and the UI is unaffected; only the tab with images.google.com is frozen, sometimes waiting to scroll, sometimes waiting for images to paint, but all interaction with that particular content is frozen until whatever it is doing is finished. The timing makes me suspect it may be attempting to do garbage collection when it happens.

It is not a crash, at least nothing shows up in about:crashes with today's date.

I have not yet tried it with a new profile.

AV1 codec support is steamrolling ahead. The bitstream is in a soft freeze but that didn't stop Facebook from deploying and pushing Chrome Canary to play it. So now Mozilla has to double time.

Business as usual. Even if Firefox is ahead, as with WASM, it doesn't really matter because there won't be market penetration without Chrome. On the other hand they have to chase every relevant non standard that big companies like Google and Facebook conjure up.

The difference here is that Mozilla is co-creator of the standard. No one expected Facebook to launch so soon after the announcement. Youtube and Netflix wanted atleast 4-6 months to improve encoder speed and browsers were planning atleast until August or September for uplift.

I'm pretty sure they didn't launch it but are just testing it.

Soon(tm). They're running into compile trouble with the new code. But at the rate their moving, I suspect sometime next month.

They're calling it "Trial Support". Internal testing is already done, They just need Chrome and Firefox to get on the same page. I'd consider that a soft launch.
Chrome Canary interesting enough does 10%-16% for 1080p-30 on my PC which is crazy to be that good so soon.

For some reason Office 365 partner portal is not working well with Firefox Nightly and or Beta 15. Keep getting an error when clicking to go to a customers admin portal where in Chrome I do not get this.

I read that the encoding speeds are really slow. Last i checked it was 1000-2000 times slower than x265

Maybe they copied too much code from us, not just new tab look... ;)
