Hello,
Have always had eternal-september showing right after all my Thunderbird folders on my
old W7 pc.
Have just gotten a new iMac.
All sorts of problems trying to use Thunderbird on my MAC, so have
switched to using Apple MAIL for my eMails instead.
But, would sure like to use eternal-september again to read the Usenet stuff, which
I enjoy very much.
Tried to create a new "Account" in MAIL to show eternal-september, but have been unable to do so.
Sr. Citizen now, very, so will blame it on old age.
Could someone, please, walk me thru, step by step how to do it, assuming it is
even possible.
Or, perhaps it is necessary to have eternal-september as a stand alone APP, and not be linked to Apple MAIL at all ? Or,...?
What's the best approach, and how to implement it, please ?
Would sure like to have access to the Usenet again on new MAC.
Again, will blame it on old age.
But if someone has a few spare minutes, would be most grateful on how to get it
going on MAC, in any way; linked to Apple MAIL, or stand alone, or...?
Hate to admit it, but have trouble with the nuances now. So very detailed step by steps would be great.
Much thanks, really appreciate the help,
Bob

Hello,
Thanks for help; really appreciate it.
I went to: //support.mozilla.org/en-us/kb/cr...d:mac:tb52 as you suggested, and it says: (see below my dashes)
Question: Where do I go to find: "Select File > New > Other Accounts..." like it says ? Hate to appear dumber than I am, but might you point me to it with a link, please.
Again, thanks, Bob

Creating a Newsgroup Account
Thunderbird can be used to read messages from and write messages to Usenet newsgroups. (These newsgroups are different from general discussion forums or email distribution lists because they transmit
messages via the NNTP protocol. For more information, see Wikipedia.)
To configure Thunderbird as your newsgroup reader:
1. Select File > New > Other Accounts...
2. Select Newsgroup Account and click

Hi Bob,
File, Edit, View etc., are at the top of Thunderbird in the Menu Bar.
Just open Thunderbird & proceed as directed.
Add your details in the new "Identity" dialogue box which opens & continue.
As I don't use the latest version, I hope this assists you a tad.

Re: Usenet Groups On New MAC. Sr. Citizen Question, Please
Hi,
Do I (now) have to use Thunderbird for my eMail, or can I stick with Apple Mail, and just/only
use Eternal September for the Usenet ?
If I can, does it just "append" to Apple Mail, and show there ?
Thanks for all the help,
Bob

Default eMail Reader Question ?
Hello,
Thanks for all the previous help.
Frankly, not too sharp with this "stuff". Really appreciate the time you folks have
been taking to help me out.
Have a MAC.
I am trying to configure Thunderbird as my Usenet News reader, but have been having problems.
I wish to continue using the Apple MAIL App that came with the Mac as the Default eMail reader.
I only want to use Thunderbird for Newsgroups.
a. I have Apple's MAIL set as the Default eMail reader (set in the Apple MAIL options Preferences\General)
BUT- anytime any new eMails come in, they are also appearing in Thunderbird. They show up in both.
Why ?
How can I have new eMails only to appear in Apple MAIL ? (but still allow me to configure Thunderbird for Newsgroups, which I'm about up to trying)
b. I use Safari in the MAC for internet.
Apparently, it automatically uses Google.
Thunderbird shows Yahoo, and a few other Internet links, but no Google.
Will having Thunderbird on my PC, even though I hope to eventually use it (only) as a Newsgroup reader,
"force" one of these other internet links. I want to stick with Safari\Google ?
Thanks,
Bob

Hi BOBRR,
Your Apple email is showing up in Thunderbird because you created the account using the Account Wizard that opens when Thunderbird was first opened. You could have clicked Cancel.
https://prod-cdn.sumo.mozilla.net/uploa ... 76dd27.png
You can delete that account and just use Apple Mail. To delete the account in Thunderbird.
Right click on mail account in folder pane and select 'Settings'
Make sure the account name you want to remove is selected.
click on 'Account Actions'
click on 'Remove account'
click on 'OK'
Also, once you have selected the email account, you will see the Account Central page where you can add the Newsgroup account. You should see Email, Chat, Newsgroups, Feeds under the "Set up an account" heading. Click Newsgroups and enter the information for the news server.

News Groups Working ! A few More Questions, Please
Hi,
Think I have the Newsgroups working now.
Thanks for all the help.
Two more questions, please:
a. The listing of the newsgroups I have subscribed to seem very
abbreviated. That is, the titles of each group are shown, but only have a few letters rather than the full Group name
like I'm pretty sure I had when using Windows.
Any way to get them in the listing in the left hand column to show the full name of each group ?
b. Whenever I open up Thunderbird now, and go the the Newsgroups, I get one screen after the other asking me if I want to download Headers, etc.
Seems like one screen for each Groups subscribed to; one after the other.
Really annoying, as it happens each and every time I open up to use the Newsgroups.
Any way to stop this ?
Thanks,
Bob

b. Select the Newsgroup account in the Folder Pane
Click "View settings for this account"
Select "Server Settings"
Disable by removing the check mark or increase the number of messages to download for the "Ask me before downloading 500 messages". 500 is the default setting.
