hide attachments on incoming mail
Win. 98se
T.Bird 1.5.0.9
Is it possible to hide attachments on incoming mail?
When I get a lot of them is covers the message .
F11 helps but not a solution.

Thank You Daifne,
I am a beginner.
I found the Chrome folder but it is empty.
There is no userChrome.css folder.
Where should I place this and how?
/* Attachment pane at bottom of message window */
#attachmentView {
-moz-appearance: none !important;
height: 40px !important;
Thanks again But I think I may have lost my original message and will have to post again ?

You create the file yourself with notepad. See this: http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserChrome.css

Daifne,
Thanks again but I don't have the knowledge to do this .
I made the userChrome.css in the Chrome folder. I went to Chrome and made a " new folder". and named it userChrome.css
Then:
I copied and pasted this in notepad :
/* Attachment pane at bottom of message window */
#attachmentView {
-moz-appearance: none !important;
height: 40px !important;
then I "saved as " into the userChrome.css . it is an
Untitled.txt file in userChrome.
I am sure all of the information needed to do this is in what you sent me .
It doesn't work but I know you are very busy and don't have time to lead me by the hand .
A friend of mine has some expertise with PC's and I will get together with him. If and when we get this working I will let you know .
Thanks again , Jorine

Not a folder. It's a file.
Where exactly did you find the Chrome folder you are talking about? It should be in C:\Documents and Settings\*user name*\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\*random string.profile name*
There is also one in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird. You do not want this one. Tell me when you find the correct folder.
Since you are using Windows, before you try to find your profile, you need to set Windows to "View hidden files and folders" and to not "Hide extensions for known file types". See this for easy instructions for how to do this: http://spywarewarrior.com/viewtopic.php?t=272

I should have told you I have Win98se.
The profile I used is in:
C\windows\application data\thunderbird\profiles\w9vtagc2.default\chrome
In Chrome I made a "new folder" and named it "usedChrome.css" Inside of it I have a folder "untitled.txt" when opened has in it:
/* Attachment pane at bottom of message window */
#attachmentView {
-moz-appearance: none !important;
height: 40px !important;
overflow: auto !important; }
I have had windows set at "hidden files show all files".
I got the "untitled.txt" by pasting the above into note pad and "save as" into the userChrome.css folder.
You say it is not a "folder" but a "file". I don't know how to get a file into the userChrome.css folder.

I now have a file in Chrome folder named "untitled.txt"
When I open it it has:
userChrome.css
/* Attachment pane at bottom of message window */
#attachmentView {
-moz-appearance: none !important;
height: 40px !important;
overflow: auto !important; }
Do I need to rename the file to "userChrome.css" ?

THANK YOU , THANK YOU!!!
I know this has been an ordeal for you , I am approaching 90yrs and have just used the PC for Email and searching the web .
I had never used Notepad before and have never set up a file.
Last night laying in bed you input started to "gel" .
This am I opened Notepad , copied and pasted the code into it and entered the file name as " UserChrome.css " . Rebooted and sent a dozen attachments to myself . ( I am dancing up and down ). Of course at my age I have a different version of "Dancing" .
Again , THANK YOU !

Why not just use the ChromEdit Extension.
It's a lot easier than all the hoops you have been jumping through.
