"Address not Found"

Post by Dritz »

Hi all,
I receive email notifications when this person is live streaming via Livestream. I just click on the "watch event" and it takes me to the page and let's me watch what's going on live and also videos that are posted. I've been doing that for 4 years now. My laptop was in for servicing and since it came back, now I get an "Address not Found" response. This happened on one other email too from a different source. Most of the time it's no problem so I don't know if it's SeaMonkey or something with my computer or Win 10. I'm not a total newbie but I'm also limited in knowledge so I was hoping you might have some suggestions. The email response does suggest a few possibilities but I'm not really sure how to fix them. BTW, I went way back on emails that I know worked before but don't now so something has changed. I am running Win 10 (recently received/installed the Win 10 Spring upgrade). Here's the response email:

Address Not Found

email.e.livestream.com could not be found. Please check the name and try again.

The browser could not find the host server for the provided address.

Did you make a mistake when typing the domain? (e.g. "ww.mozilla.org" instead of "www.mozilla.org")
Are you certain this domain address exists? Its registration may have expired.
Are you unable to browse other sites? Check your network connection and DNS server settings.
Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.

Thank you! Debbie

Most of the time it's no problem
Do you mean that sometimes you get the error message but that you can usually click on the link in an email from that source and access the video without problems? Or do you mean that that email address fails every time?

First of all (manually) update SeaMonkey to latest version 2.49.3:
https://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/2.49.3
... and check if it helped a little.

If not then try to disable Google Safe Browsing:

I don't know why but last few days some sites can't load in browsers with GSB enabled (including latest Firefox 60.x).

Normally, in the past, I could click on the "view event" link in the Livestream email notification and it takes me to the Livestream page where I can watch live or watch posted videos from this person. Now I'm getting the "address not found" message when I click on the "view event" link so it's not taking me to the Livestream page. It does not happen on all emails from other sources that include links, just from a few variable sources like this Livestream one. It never happened before with Livestream so I don't know why it's happening now. I hope that makes more sense.

Well, I updated to 2.49.3 as suggested. I hope I didn't screw myself by doing that, not really sure if I did it the right way, ie: manually but I hope so! In any case, I kept a copy of my profile before doing the upgrade. No change though in my problem.

I can't find this Google safe browsing. Some of the information is old, prior to Win 10, but I do know where my profile folder is and saw nothing about safe browsing in it. Google.com is my home page but it loads fast and so do other websites mentioned like Facebook that were giving some problems. So, I'm confused!

Disable two options:
Menu -> Edit -> Preferences -> Privact & Security -> in field "Safe Browsing" disable/unmark both option

Image

Alternatively you can do this in "about:config" by setting to "false" two preferences:

Code: Select all

browser.safebrowsing.malware.enabled
browser.safebrowsing.phishing.enabled
Maybe restart of SeaMonkey is required, I'm not sure but better do this.

If this didn't help then next step is to blank every preferences that starts with:

Code: Select all

browser.safebrowsing.provider.*
... and its value looks like URL.

If it didn't help... it's good you have backup of your profile... ;-)

Well, maybe your router was hacked:

TPR75,
Thanks for the directions you posted for changing the safe browsing. I did the first one and restarted but still getting the same "no address found". I'm a little gun shy about messing with the account:config. Of course like you said, I have the backup file. Thanks! Debbie

Well. Maybe there is some problem with DNS. Your first DNS addresses should be that provided by you ISP (if they're good). But such ISP can filter and treat some sites as malicious (even if they are not). Here is list for alternative DNS:
https://wikileaks.org/wiki/Alternative_DNS

Add them as 3rd and 4th... but remember that some providers can block traffic to/from such DNS.

There is another one:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1.1.1.1
... but I'm not using so I can't say is it good or not.

After you'll add new DNS to you OS network connection clean DNS system's "cache" (buffer) by running command:

Code: Select all

ipconfig /flushdns

TPR75,
Well, I don't know what changed but it's working today!!! I even went back and checked the old ones that had worked but weren't working and now are. I had not done the code changes but perhaps that safe browsing change was enough??? I am however going to look at that DNS list anyway. Thanks for your help! Debbie Carlson
