Special account.

Post by redrobinf »

What is the purpose of the "special account".
It appeared when I connected four email addresses and I can see no use for it.

Thanks for your advice. I went to the web address and could see no mention of the account.
I am tired of copies of incoming emails going into the "Special Account" box. The only thing it appears to do is give me additional messages to delete.
How can I delete the Special Account completely?

I added "It's called a "special" account because it doesn't have any instructions for how to communicate with a mail server." to the KB article at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Local_Folders . The KB article has a "Getting rid of Local Folders" section. [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunde ... l-folders/ is probably your best bet.

See the first comment on that web page for how to get it to work with a current version of Thunderbird by manually editing the manifest file in the add-on , or also install https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/th ... y2/?src=ss (to eliminate version checks).

Note that there are potential issues in deleting access to the Local Folders account. Thunderbird stores outgoing messages to the Outbox sub-folder of Local Folders when sending of a message fails or when the user wishes to compose and "send" messages when no internet connection is available. If Local Folders is not accessible, that Outbox folder will not be available to the user.

Also note that incoming messages are not normally copied to the Inbox sub-folder of Local Folders. There may be a settings that has been unintentionally set to cause that to happen or a filter may have been unintentionally configured to direct copies there.
