Seamonkey no longer able to be used with ebay

Post by Iamusually happy »

Got this email today, other sites too saying I am using an outdated browser.
So outside of changing browsers, anything to be done about this ?

Oh No!
We noticed that you’re on an outdated web browser that may compromise your security as you shop online.

As of June 26, 2018 you will no longer be able to check out on eBay with your current browser.
Update to the latest version now so you can continue
to check out safely and securely.

That's nonsense resulting from clumsy browser sniffing by the site. Try changing the user agent string in SeaMonkey to tell the site you are using Firefox -- http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... 0&t=418303

(@D, does that still work, 2006?)

Anyhow, SeaMonkey will work fine, security-wise, on eBay.
(As in eBay won't require anything that SeaMonkey cannot provide.)

Whether eBay blocks SeaMonkey (substitute any non-"mainstream" browser name here) for some dumb-butt sniffing reasons, that would be a different matter (& presumably could be easily worked around).

Yeah, ignore it.

Here we are on the 26th of June 2018 and, as predicted here, both Ebay and PayPal are working fine with SeaMonkey. I sort of know it working OK, because I just bought something.

They're courting the G-Monster and playing into their 'we make the rules of the web' game. Weinig is whole hog on the G-Koolaide Fix.
