FF Quantum Youtube cookies bug?

Post by Necronomicon »

From the date I installed FF quantum and now up to v.60.0.2, FF suffers from some kind of weird bug with Youtube cookies.

I set YT to be in dark mode and region United States. And from time to time, random time, it somehow loses settings and reverts back to white mode and region Serbia. Even when I'm using FF, or even when I close FF and open it again. It doesn't matter.

Do you have Firefox set to clear history when Firefox closes?
Do you use any sort of clean up utility like Ccleaner?

Nothing like that.

Before continuing to write message, by original post above, I deleted cookies.sqlite a long time ago (during noticing YT cookie bug behavior), so cookie database, is to say, new. But, it somehow still doesn't work with YT well.

So I decided to see what is wrong with cookies.sqlite with DB brower for sqlite.

Searched under host for youtube and I got this line that is a bit weird. Like it's not getting or updating cookie properly.
Under YT this is the line:

Image

What is strange about it is, that under value there is a date 2017/10/22 (I don't know what 09-0 is). So I changed value to YES+US.en+20180605-09-0 copied back to profile folder and for now it is working.

Will get back if it doesn't.

Now, before and if anything goes back, it seems that there is a problem with FF not retreiving or updating cookie for Youtube.

If you use the cookies view in the Storage Inspector, does it show the date(s) in a more readable format?

https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Tool ... _Inspector

I don't know what kind of CONSENT YouTube asked for and stored, but I don't think that is the cookie used to store display preferences.

Open Youtube, Open Inspector/Storage and the first line (at least on my side), under Name there is CONSENT. Same line there is Value column.

Sorry, I meant the dates that Firefox stores -- such as when Firefox received or modified the cookie -- the content of the value column are whatever the YouTube server wants them to be, which could be the date of the Privacy Policy rather than when anything actually happened.

To see Creation Time, you need to click the cookie to open the little panel on the right side of the Storage Inspector.

Creation time for CONSENT is 16 June 2018. Maybe it was my creation with DB Browser.

And after post when I changed data in cookies.sqlite until now, everything worked fine. Today it happened again. It reseted it self again. And no, FF is not set to delete anything upon closing.

For example:

1. By default Youtube is set to Youtube (RS), white mode and with autoplay on.
2. I set it to Youtube (US), dark mode, autoplay on.

If I exclude my messing with cookies.squlite, after few days it reverts to item 1. Just Youtube for now, nothing else.

And this, today, it seems that happened with recent update (few days ago) to 61.0.2.

Logged in, logged out (at Youtube) matter?
Might /storage/ matter?

If you set a location, say RS, your URL is something like, https://www.youtube.com/?gl=RS.
Was thinking that if you followed a link that specifically included a different location, like, https://www.youtube.com/?gl=EN, maybe that caused the change, but it doesn't seem to.

It's not that. FF is in English completely.
Let's start from begining as if I installed celared all cookies from begining.

I go to www.youtube.com and I'm not logged in.
Youtube presents itself as Youtube RS (logo at the top left), region based.
Via settings I change Youtube to US, dark mode and autoplay off (I made a mistake in previous post about autoplay).
After a while (much random) It reverts back to white mode, Youtube RS and autoplay on.
I go to settings, Youtube is in white mode (switch), autoplay is ON, but US is still checked even though it presents itself as RS.

After messing with cookies.dblite I figured out that line CONSENT has something to do with. So I changed as in above post. And it worked until FF updated itself to 61.0.2 from 61.0.1.
Actually it worked for a while, but it changed itself back to white mode...etc.

So I used Inspector to change CONSENT line to YES+US.en+20180716-09-0 and it works.
As I'm currently writing this, I checked Inspector and it reverted by itself to YES+RS.en+20171022-09-0, luckly it stays as I've setted it, but I don't know how much will ti stay like that (random revert).

Yes, I tried with deleting cookies from begining (everything), I tried with deletinf cookies.sqilte and so on. Except crating new profile, because I have a lot of stuff saved as it is.
I know I can export some stuff (bookmarks and so on), I can try reinstalling FF from scratch, but it will tak me some time to set it again and every page to my accomodation.
