Post by Snake4 »

Web Security had 220,000 users at that time; other banned extensions include Facebook Video Downloader, Popup-Blocker, Simply Search, Auto Destroy Cookies, or Google NoTrack.

I didn't know gorhill works for Mozilla..

@As pointed out by Frank in the other thread, it was an 'a-list' active Extension developer that found it, I imagine since WebExtensions, 90% of similarly talented 'legacy Add-on' authors have left the sinking ship with their middle finger up.

gorhill discovered an outgoing connection to ip... nothing more, that was an answer to a question. i dont have doubt on him but "web privacy" disappeared 2 days later without any comment of him. could be related, but dont has to. who knows it all...

And if he hadn't discovered an"outgoing connection" do you seriously believe ALL those extensions wouldn't still be there?

Well, that and AMO admin have always had a reputation for high-handiness with its reviewers, as though they are doing them a favour.

Plus, when you're working on your own stuff you understand it all, so I can well imagine that when they stopped doing that the code they were reviewing would seem far harder to analyse...and so they'd just stop reviewing altogether.

Finally, this is a real quote, that was sent to me by a Firefox extension dev, who was also an AMO reviewer. I would add, that he is also a grown man, i.e. an adult -
Reviewing hundreds of themes and add-ons for a few years brought me a 2GB Firefox USB Stick and a T-Shirt.

Goodbyee....a fond goodbye.
We're holding a Gecko wake up at a friend's place in the hills this evening. 5th Sept 2018.
Someone's made a catherine wheel from one of the last figurative Mozilla images before MozCo
went all corporatized moz:/@:zomb:e

and it should spin us out of the final day of XUL support in fine style.
Any extension devs still reading in here, especially those who published those personal small but useful tweaks for
us code illiterates, you've been exemplars of true Open Source.
Thanks for all the fish.
