Firefox working OK but still receive error message

Post by JamieKer »

Hi There,

We have an issue with my parents computer
Computer spec is HP 280 G1: Core i5 4590S/3 GHz (Quad Core), 4GB RAM, 500GB Hard Drive, Windows 7 Professional (64 bit)

When the computer is first turned on, we receive an error message 'Firefox software has stopped working. Check on line for a solution and close the program/close the program'.
We just close this box (using the 'x' in the top right hand corner) and continue to use the Firefox browser.
Firefox then seems to work OK

We also have the same issue with Google Chrome; similar messages pop up.

I don't know if this has something to do with the Norton Antivirus software that is installed on the computer; as when this is uninstalled there are no error messages. The Norton software is updated regularly.

How do we get rid of the error messages relating to Firefox?

Checking on the internet, it seems these pop-up error messages have been experienced by many.

I've used Firefox on my own computer for many years, with very few issues being experienced during that time. It does seem that in more recent years (last 18months) there have been more issues reported regarding Firefox.

Any advice would be appreciated. Its very irritating when these error messages keep popping up.

Thanks

Jamie

Hi,
It would seem as though you answered your own Q?
The problem is Norton.
Close both Firefox & Chrome....then...
remove all/any instances of Firefox & Chrome from Norton & then restarting Firefox to let it be "re-detected" by Norton?

Seeing as both browsers are affected, this is getting moved to the Tech. Forum...

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

Sorry for being a little stupid here but how do I get rid of all/any instances of Firefox and Chrome from Norton?

Hi,
I can't really say for sure coz I don't know/use Norton.
Open it's Options/Prefs & look for any reference to both browsers.
Delete those & just try re-opening Firefox.

Good luck.
Just a "heads-up"....Norton has been reported to cause a few "problems" with Firefox,
in that, it does not automatically recognize the latest updated version/s.
Hence, the error message & the need to remove any references from it.
