Theme working in 60.3 with white text on dark background

Post by CarolynC »

I have vision problems and it is easiest for me to read light colored text (preferably white) on a dark background (preferably black). So, far I have not been able to find a theme in version 60.3 that does this. The default dark theme only makes the outside border black; elsewhere, there's still a white background.

Is anyone aware of a theme meeting this description that currently works in 60.3?

Thank you for considering this.

The TT Deep Dark theme is worth considering. It maintains black text on a white background for received messages, but you can change that in Tools/Options/Display/Formatting/Fonts and Colors/Colors. If you changed the text and background colors in Tools/Options/Composition/HTML, html messages would display white text on black, but also be sent with the same colors. There may be a userContent.css file that displays white on black to you, but doesn't send that in the message.

Thank you for the suggestion, sfhowes. TT Deep Dark theme with options set to white text on black looks very good except that the mail toolbar is showing up as white text/icons on a light grey backbone. But, I can work with that while waiting for something better to come along. I'll look into editing a css file.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Bad_Eyesight_-_Thunderbird lists several other dark themes. Perhaps Monterail Full Dark?

See https://github.com/conema/monterail-fulldark/issues/22 for instructions about how to change the light grey for the mail toolbar to a darker color. I suggest you also see what tweaks you can make using the CustomizeMyBird add-on. It lets you specify custom colors for window headers for example.
