When I try to download a picture file from a site I have used for years, lately firefox does not keep the original file name, it just uses "file.jpg" for every .jpg file I try to download. Very annoying.
Using Windows 10.
As suggested on web searches I have turned off Hardware Accelerate & addons but still have the problem.
File name not kept.

Very strange. Any jpg file I download has the original file name.
Try Safe Mode. On the menu bar, click the Help menu and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.... Firefox will start up with the Firefox Safe Mode dialog. Click continue in Safe Mode and don't check any items.
See if that makes a difference.

What happens when you try to download a picture file from a site you haven't used for years? You have to give us a few clues if you were hoping we'd solve this for you.tonedeaf2 wrote:When I try to download a picture file from a site I have used for years, lately firefox does not keep the original file name, it just uses "file.jpg" for every .jpg file I try to download. What method do you use for downloading the images from that site? For example:
* right-click the image > Save Image As
* right-click a link to the image > Save Link As
* click a link or button that displays the download dialog
* view the image stand-alone in a tab, then Ctrl+s
* use the Media tab of the Page Info dialog
* something else...
* right-click the image > Save Image As

Re: File name not kept.
could be server side issue - the image is used from a database and generally inserted as file.jpg. we need an example!

How does the server send this file if you check the HTTP response headers in the Network Monitor?

Thank you all for your replies, it turned out to be a server issue
