Is it possible to run Firefox on a Chromebook?

My Chromebook supports android apps.
Both Firefox Focus and Opera both install and run fine but I cant get the real Firefox to even install let alone run.
The App store just says the device isn't compatible with this version.



Does anyone know if it's possible or if there are plans to even get Firefox running on a Chromebook?

The full version's "requirements"...don't seem to include a Chromebook.

I believe that Firefox Portable requires Windows or Wine. "Version 63.0.3 for Windows, English

I couldn't/didn't find the Specs for the portable version at the time...
viz; > System Requirements: Windows 7, 8, 10 & WINE

So, it appears that Firefox will not install & run on a chromebook?

Yeah portable version wont work. While it can run linux apps they don't run well at all.

I just dont understand why Firefox Focus runs fine but the real Firefox isn't compatible. Aren't they both by Mozilla?

Unfortunately Firefox Focus isn't useful because of those annoying GDPR and cookie popups we get in europe. You need to have cookies enabled to stop those popup from appearing every time you visit a web page. But because focus doesn't save cookies I get spammed with pop ups every time I use it.

Not sure that this is going to help but my Android tablet runs fine with the Google playstore Firefox and I also installed some extensions like cookie controller etc.

Unfortunately though Firefox wont work on the chromebook even though it's on the Play store. Just says device not compatible.

And yes being able to block these intrusive cookie warnings the meddling EU introduced is the reason I like to use Firefox.
Chrome extension support just isn't as good

Google can control what is available for Chromebook. I doubt they would allow Firefox. You can (probably) make your Chromebook into a non-Chromebook by jailbreak it and installing another Linux on it, and then run Firefox, but you probably don't want to do that.

True but they allow Opera and Firefox Focus to run on Chromebook via the android play store. Its just the main version of Firefox that wont install.

I did manage to get the linux version installed but it didn't run well at all.

Basically you can use Android Firefox, dual boot with a Linux OS or if you have certain newer Chromebooks use the Linux Firefox in VM thanks to Crostini.

If you cannot install the Android Firefox from PlayStore then in may not be compatible on hardware. The Android version is not really made with Chrome OS or laptops in mind though also.

You could try the APk from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/android/all/
