Thank you, but that thread is locked, it has some bad advice and the response to the issue is far from suitable; but I won't elaborate any more here other than to say it is a far from ideal using http when there are so many obvious issues with it and no disadvantages with using https properly.DanRaisch wrote:Check here -- https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/

Re: Problem with thunderbird-latest ...
Is there a better place to post to get the attention of Mozilla for the issue with the above links provided the penultimate release rather than the actual latest?

Thunderbird has not been a Mozilla product for a few years now. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... 9&t=366405affinity wrote:Is there a better place to post to get the attention of Mozilla for the issue with the above links provided the penultimate release rather than the actual latest?
Look the sole admin/owner has been generous in keeping this Independent forum alive even though he has been working on Chrome related stuff at Goggle for some years now. He popped in briefly a while ago to say that he was thinking of changing to another board software that would be easier to keep updated and to please the few that complain about it, it may also be https then, though this has not happened yet.affinity wrote:Thank you, but that thread is locked, it has some bad advice and the response to the issue is far from suitable; but I won't elaborate any more here other than to say it is a far from ideal using http when there are so many obvious issues with it and no disadvantages with using https properly.DanRaisch wrote:Check here -- https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/

If you really want https:// that badly then you can post at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions as Mozilla has been generous in providing a place for Thunderbird users since February 21, 2014 as it was moved from a board on Get Satisfaction.

Mozilla didn't completely abandon Thunderbird and it is still [back] very much in it's stable these days, even if it was at one time destined to be removed from that stable.

Why does this link point to a new domain?

Why did they move all extensions to https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/ ?

"How is Thunderbird back in the Mozilla stable?"
Mozilla is now just a legal/financial home for Thunderbird. Basically their lawyers will help, and they'll collect any donations explicitly made for Thunderbird and pass them on to the Thunderbird Council. Mozilla is not helping or funding Thunderbird development at all and they've even told their developers not to waste any time trying to avoid creating bugs for Thunderbird when they modify the Mozilla toolkit. This is due to all of the fuss they made about Thunderbird being a tax on Firefox development.
The Thunderbird Council had considered two other legal/financial homes (the Software Freedom Conservancy and the Document Foundation) but ultimately decided to negotiate a new deal with Mozilla because they thought that might help with the attempt to minimize their dependencies upon Mozilla technologies. Personally, I wish they had chosen one of the two alternatives.

Because they're now providing their own infrastructure for most stuff. That is part of being independent. The two exceptions seem to be bugzilla and the official support forums. There also was a lot of chatter about Mozilla eventually wanting to get rid of AMO.

Re: Problem with thunderbird-latest ...
I knew all of that, so I guess that qualifies for Thunderbird being back in Mozilla's stable in affinity's view.
I was surprised when Thunderbird added Mozilla Discourse categories.

No or they wouldn't dismantle the shared platform step by step. Some individual devs care but that is all. At one point in the future they will kick out TB like they did with SeaMonkey.

This isn't the situation with Thunderbird's current home.Mouse4 wrote:i think its kinda happening to all Email clients nowadays there all being kicked to the curb in favor of Web Emailfrg wrote:> I knew all of that, so I guess that qualifies for Thunderbird being back in Mozilla's stable in affinity's view.

a) The original "kicking out" was from Mozilla Corporation, not the Foundation.
b) It is the Corporation that (despite dropping development) still provides us much important infrastructure - which they are under no legal responsibility to provide to do.
c) Mozilla Foundation is our legal home, we have a good working relationship with them, and communicate frequently. Thunderbird will leave if and when it becomes in our mutual interest to do so.
