When replying to an email, the "original message" is wrong
When replying to any email, the "original message" content is from a specific email back in November.

How is the account set up in Thunderbird, as POP or IMAP? Find out using menu path Tools->Account Settings->Server Settings->Server Type at the top right of the dialogue.
Do you regularly compact the message folders? Compacting is something that needs to be done regularly in any email program, particularly with POP type accounts. We recommend weekly, but many of us do it daily. When done often enough, it can be an extremely fast process. Not doing so can lead to problems like those you are experiencing. See this about how to and why it's so important: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Compacting_folders
If you haven't been doing that before, first back up your Thunderbird Profile -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup then compact all folders. If 'compacting' them (and leaving a long enough time for the process to complete) doesn't fully resolve the problem then do the following on each account:
Close Thunderbird. Find and delete all of the files with the .msf file extension in your profile folder/Mail http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Folder#Thunderbird including your Local Folders, especially if you are using the global inbox. You must have "View hidden files and folders" on http://spywarewarrior.com/viewtopic.php?t=272 and you need to set "hide extensions for known file types" off (just below View Hidden) if you are using Windows. These are your mail summary files and do not hold any messages themselves. They will be rebuilt the next time you open each folder in Thunderbird. Compact all your folders when you have completed this.
To avoid this happening again, see the tips in these articles:

I tried compacting, the gmail inbox, and the other inbox, and it said 'compacting' but when I reply to emails in those inboxes, I still get the wrong information in the reply.
When I tried to compact a local folder, it doesn't say 'compacting', it seems like nothing is happening, and these are large not like the non-local inbox folders which only have a few emails in them.

First backup your profile -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup
Close Thunderbird and navigate to your Profile Folder ( http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Folder ). Find the files with the extension msf, such as Inbox.msf. Note that there will be sets of two files with the name but only one of these will have the MSF extension. Delete the files with the MSF extension. Restart Thunderbird, compact all folders, and see if things are back to normal. Note that the MSF files do NOT contain your messages. They are, for lack of a better term, an index file and will be recreated by Thunderbird as required.

Deleted all msf files, and the local folders seem incapable of being compacted, the only time it says "compacting" is with the gmail and other. But even if I reply to an email in gmail inbox, it still includes that "original message" from 11/15/2018DanRaisch wrote:First backup your profile -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup

To what are you referring when you use the term "local folders"? Those in Thunderbird's Local Folders structure or something else?

Yes, those, they have all my saved emails. Three accounts, gmail, other IMAP, and Local Folders. The subfolders of the Local Folders account can't seem to be compacted. The other two are, but they still have the error.DanRaisch wrote:To what are you referring when you use the term "local folders"? Those in Thunderbird's Local Folders structure

You won't see any reaction in Thunderbird if no messages have been deleted from those Local Folders since the last time they were compacted.

.. and even if some have been deleted, if the number is small enough the action may be nearly instantaneous and not visible.DanRaisch wrote:You won't see any reaction in Thunderbird if no messages have been deleted from those Local Folders since the last time they were compacted.

I'm still getting an incorrect "original message" in every single email I reply to, regardless of which folder that email is in.DanRaisch wrote:You won't see any reaction in Thunderbird if no messages have been deleted from those Local Folders since the last time they were compacted.

No, do not start a new topic on the same issue.

What's the solution? Compacting didn't help.DanRaisch wrote:No, do not start a new topic on the same issue.

How is the account that originally received that "wrong message) set up in Thunderbird, as POP or IMAP? Find out using menu path Tools->Account Settings->Server Settings->Server Type at the top right of the dialogue.

Re: When replying to an email, the "original message" is wro
IMAP, it's the second IMAP account, the first is Gmail. At one point, I moved the email from its inbox, to one of the folders in the Local Folder account. When I noticed the problem, I deleted it and then successfully compacted that folder.DanRaisch wrote:How is the account that originally received that "wrong message) set up in Thunderbird, as POP or IMAP? So now the problem persists, all replies are not just adding that incorrect email info as the "original message" - presumably because it is stored somewhere? - but they are using it instead of the correct original message. Meaning it is easy to delete, when replying to any email, but it is quite a task to add the actual correct 'original message' info manually.
