my Guess thats a WR fault This morning the dialog box from Help / About Nightly gets stuck on "Checking for updates...". In the past it has given up quickly, but today is has been "checking" for ten minutes.
I think I have the same issue as you have. For me it's most noticable on YouTube while watching a video. It just becomes black for a moment and then appear as normal again.
Same thing for me. Intel Core i9-9900K @ 5.1 GHz | Gigabyte Z390 AORUS MASTER | Corsair 1000W PSU | Corsair H115i CPU Cooler | Corsair 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX2080 Ti FTW3 11GB | BenQ PD3200U 32" 4K LCD | 3-512GB Samsung 970 PRO NVMe | 2TB Samsung 860 EVO | 1TB Sabrent Rocket NVMe | Windows 10 Pro | Xfinity 1Gb
Known issue. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1517718 Linux Desktop - AMD Athlon(tm) II X3 455 3.3GHz | 8.0GB RAM | GeForce GT 630
Windows Notebook - AMD A8 7410 2.2GHz | 6.0GB RAM | AMD Radeon R5
Also have experienced this in the past, thanks for linking the bug Walt. There's a bug with a proposed work-around for bug 1517718 that would allow those of us with the bug to update to a newer nightly automatically.
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1517743 I keep getting the Notice of New Update available, but nothing is downloaded. Manual check also downloads nothing.
Thanks for bugs noted above - watching them... somehow I suspect being as the week-end is upon us... could be no updates for a day or two ? i dont use the Help > About Nightly . to look for new updates. IMO its easier an quicker to clicvk on OPTIONS an look for an update there

This evening it was stuck for me. As a test, I downloaded the Nightly from Mozilla's web site (Nightly full installers) and installed over my \Firefox Nightly\ executables. There was a partial update that installed after I got Nightly back up and running. I don't know if what I did installed the fix, but so far it looks good. I manually installed the current ZIP version of Nightly. I'm not getting the constant update spinner. ZIP can be found here: Index Browser | Taskcluster

I am confused. I assume that you did as you said and manually installed the 'latest update' why would you expect the update spinner to even find a, as of yet, non existent 'new update'? I just installed Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:66.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/66.0 Build ID: 20190104214806 from https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox ... a-central/ and doing a Help > About Nightly tells me I'm up to date.
