Why in the world these two 'pocket' thing still here with today nightly even though I had 'extensions.pocket.enabled' set to false?

Temporary workaround with userchrome.css

/* Save Page and Link to Pocket */
#context-pocket { display: none !important; }
#context-savelinktopocket { display: none !important; }

I got an update this morning. My stuck Nightly from several days ago (bug 1517718) is now unstuck (bug 1517743 is implemented).

Eww... This pocket stuff on the context menu is disgusting, even if I had it enabled and wanted to use it...
Also the about:newtab page's search is completely broken, unable to paste anything in there and typing in it often makes it disappear without showing the awesomebar. Not only that but you can't search Google directly now without having to select it in the actionbar so searching stuff like "a.b" without the brackets will just give a "Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site.".

I just tried about:newtab (my standard is about:blank for a new tab) and didn't have these problems. Paste and typing worked without problem.

about:blank doesn't have a search bar though.

Flip this pref in about:config browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.improvesearch.handoffToAwesomebar Search will now stay put.

Yes, I toggled my setting to test. I really like a blank new tab page--I almost always know what I want to do with the new tab and anything on the page is a potential distraction.

The one annoyance (as someone mentioned above) is searching for foo.bar requires going to the search engine site first so it doesn't get interpreted as a domain to visit.

What do you mean toggled your setting? I find the tiles extremely helpful way to get to bookmarks and I leave 2 rows free which acts as a speedier way to access sites I visit often but not something permanent that requires a bookmark. Other than my own pinned tiles and frequently visited sites, nothing else is on my about:newtab page than the search bar which I only keep because of the incompetence of the awesomebar to resolve text that it sees as an address into a search. Also you don't have to visit the search engine site but instead only have to add a " to the end but it is still really inconvenient especially when you are pasting text into the awesomebar.
