I have been using ThunderBird for quite few years now and have many emails assigned, and i do a manual backup of the profile here and then , but looks that it grows in size and i wanted to delete some files like
pictures , or some other attachments that where there for long time,so this way is easier to backup manual.
My Profile is around 60 gb+ of data as of today.
Here where i look:
C:\Users\my-name\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles
Running Win 10 64bit.

Thanks for any advice.
P.

In Thunderbird attachments are stored as part of the message and are not found on the hard drive as a separate file which can be deleted to save space. It would be necessary to detach the attachment(s) from a given message in order to eliminate the space taken up on the drive by the data representing the attachment.
Sort the messages by size (View->Sort by->Size or, if it is displayed, click on the "Size" column header in the message list pane.)
View the massage and right click on the attachment indicator at the bottom left of the message (in the attachment pane) and select "Detach" or "Detach all".

Thanks for reply!
Ok I got it. The only problem is : Can i Detach more that 1 email at one time? as doing one by one on 25-30 email account will take for ever!

Or maybe there is an addon that can help with this?

Thanks,

Try the AttachmentEXtractor Continued add-on if you use version 60.*.

I just installed it with 60.4 and used it to extract attachments from several selected messages (in one step). It worked fine.

So u installed Version 1.0b1
https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/th ... continued/
?

How did you do it?
I look all over , but still did not find how to do it!
I found the options "extract attachments" and in one email account i have 3 files attached, and i try to get them out of there , so they can be moved and then deleted ,but they are still there looks like.
Hmm i guess i am not doing something right.

Thanks,

I don't understand whether you had a problem installing it, or using it. There was no default download directory setting, so the first time I tried it I had no indication that anything happened. Once I set that setting, it not only worked, but displayed a widow indicating it had finished extracting the files.

I think using it.
I did download the file from the link above and install manual into the tunderbird, and then i restart. I choose on email account from the many i have on the left side, and then i follow this:
>>>
Sort the messages by size (View->Sort by->Size or, if it is displayed, click on the "Size" column header in the message list pane.)
>>>
Then i clicked at top icon "attachments" so it only showed the emails that had something attached to it.

Then i click to highlight all, then click extract to a folder on other drive. Verified and files are there.
Now trying to figure out how to delete those attachments from that specific emails, i guess that's where i am stuck or not choosing the right way of doing the steps in deleting those attachments .

Thanks!

Its not in the menu. Go to the add-ons options and in the AfterExtraction tab you can check "Delete the attachment from the message".
