Mozilla Crash Reporter and Firefox 65.0 update

Post by yturieow618984 »

Why does the Mozilla Crash Reporter appear every time I close a Firefox window? This just started happening after I updated to Firefox Quantum 65.0
I tried disabling the Reporter with the Application file, even that doesn't stop the crash reporter from showing up every single time I close the window. The irony is that the program is not even crashing. I'm just closing the window, and about 60 seconds later the Crash Reporter appears, wanting to send a report about a "crash" that never even happened. Has anyone else experienced this, and/or have a solution?

Does the same thing occur if you launch the application in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

Yes. After closing Firefox (while in Safe mode) window, the reporter pops back up about 60-90 seconds later.

There have been numerous bugs about the 'shut down crash' ... Post a link to one or two of your crashes.

Thanks, there is a bug already been opened on this crash: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1524200 , hard to say when it may get attention.
Reading the bug it appears that the crash is reduced in the Beta build (66).

As a work-around, are you using clear data on close ? Try turning that off. Also could be some form of Async time-out if your using MozSync (or whatever its called).

I dont have any crash here like that. could be specific with his installed extensions - adblock ultimate, javascript on/off, awesome screenshot..., empty cache...

Thanks, TheVisitor. At least I now know there's nothing wrong with my computer.

No, it's not set to clear on close. "Remember search and form history" is the only thing I have ticked. I don't use, or even know what MozSync is/does. lol

If the problem "bugs" me enough (get it?), maybe I'll try the beta build you suggested. Right now, it's just a minor annoyance. Thanks again.

Elsewhere it was said (so might be worth a try):
I was able to solve my own crashing-on-exit issue last night by clearing 'offline website data'

as i wrote, i dont have that issue, and clearing website data is ticked since... (forgot)
you can try several now, new profile, safe-mode, disabling extensions (read above).
what i can tell you, that i dont use any of your extensions.
i also read the bug-report, a second view to its crash-rep told me, that you two are same people, never mind.

Adblock Ultimate, I would not trust - maybe it's just me.

And it looks like you have some sort of cache clearing extension?
Any kind of thought that such an extension may be interfering with FF syncing its end on quit?

I don't know for sure, but I doubt it. None of my extensions are new. I've had all of them for at least a couple years, and this problem started happening 2 days ago. So if what your suggesting WAS the problem, it happened because the latest verion (65.0) of FF started operating/syncing differently. This started happening right after the latest update was downloaded, and the problem had NEVER reared it's ugly head previously on my computer.

thats why Dan advised you to start safe-mode to test without extensions in your used profile.
