)'s being added to the end of all Emails recieved ?
Hi all,
Hoping someone has seen this, although I've been unable to find another post about it anywhere...
We recently had to upgrade to v60.5.0 (32-bit) as we were seeing the issue with Marco Pinto's dictionary.
Since upgrading though, we are now seeing a ')' (without quotes) at the end of some EMails ??
Restarting with add-ons disabled made no difference.
On further investigation the ')' is added to all Emails as the last character.
Plain / text Emails show the ')' as the last character.
Emails encoded in Base64 don't show a ')' at the end. But viewing the Email source/raw format
shows the ')' as the last character of the Email.
Any ideas ? All welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Matt.

What text encoding (western, unicode etc.) are you using?

Hi tanstaafl,
We're using -
Outgoing Mail: Unicode (UTF-8)
Incoming Mail: Western (ISO-8859-1)

Re: )'s being added to the end of all Emails recieved ?
Same problem here (version 60.5.0, beta 65.0b3, nightly 66.0a1).
Basic plain text emails -> there is ")" at the end of the email
Multipart/alternative emails -> there is something like "--_000_1297a61c79664c73946928e037ecaccaz_--) " at the end of the email
Multipart/mixed emails (with attachments) -> are OK
Important is, email is OK on server, when using another mail client. Problem is only with local copy in Thunderbird.

Re: )'s being added to the end of all Emails recieved ?
Does this problem occur with multiple accounts or just one account? The reason I'm asking is because the original on the mail server is okay.
Does it occur if you send mail to yourself?
"--_000_1297a61c79664c73946928e037ecaccaz_--) " is a example of a boundary string - a string automatically inserted between different parts of a multi-part message so that the email client can recognize where one parts begins and ends. It shouldn't be visible. If it is, that usually means there is some type of parsing error.
Could you post a copy of the raw source (from view -> message source or control-U) of a small plain text message with no attachments that has this problem ( a ')' at end of message), where you edited it beforehand to remove all of the headers before the first Content-Type: header (its near the Subject:) ? That will reduce the size of the post and prevent anybody from seeing the email addresses.

It occurs to everyone (tested on more people in my company) witch new Thunderbird version. It doesn't occur on different mail client (mobile, web access).
It occurs on emails (plain, multipart/alternative) downloaded with new version (old mails are shown correctly). My collegaue tried delete thunderbird directory, and then all emails was corrupted.

Re: )'s being added to the end of all Emails recieved ?
I just sent a plain text message from my yahoo, outlook and gmail accounts to my fastmail account using TB 60.5.0. It did not append anything. I also used yahoo webmail to send a message to my fastmail account. It did not append anything.
Could this have been a temporary glitch in yahoo webmail that has been fixed? Its not unusual for yahoo to have temporary problems.

I sent a similar message from gmail webmail to my fastmail account using 60.5. The copy in my fastmail IMAP account is okay, but the copy in my Gmail IMAP account has the same problem that you reported. I see test abc
--0000000000005c67120581c77a4c--) instead of test abc. The original in Gmail webmail is fine.
If I switch from view -> message body as -> original HTML to plain text it looks fine since the boundary string as the end of the HTML MIME section is whats corrupted.
I switched from 60.5 to 52.9.1 (using the same profile) and the problem went away so it looks like its a bug in 60.5. 66.0b1 has the same problem.
I'll check bugzilla and see if I can find a bug report. If not I'll file one.

Re: )'s being added to the end of all Emails recieved ?
The 60.5.1 preview build from https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1249414 appears to have worked around the problem on my PC. They removed a change added in 60.5 that caused problems in how IMAP handled chunks. When you run setup Windows Defender will warn you that there is no recognized publisher for that build.
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/ ... /en-US/has the en-us windows 60.4 setup program if you want to try installing that (using custom setup) in a different directory. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Go_back_to_an ... hunderbird for other builds.
