No New Mail Alerts on Local Folder Messages

Post by Xantho »

I receive new message alerts as expected (pop-up window & tray icon) for incoming mail in my main Inbox, but not for messages that are filtered and routed to my Local Folders. I'm using IMAP with Thunderbird 60.5.3 on Windows 10.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

It is a bug. See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=228168 and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=378582 .The latter has comments from 2 months ago that the problem still exists.

Supposedly the other new mail notifications (such as a audible alert) will still work in this scenario, if you have them enabled. You could experiment with a saved search folder in the IMAP account (whose search criteria include messages in the Local Folders inbox) whose properties in the folder pane are configured to always check it when checking for new mail. If you are lucky that will trigger the new message alert because the virtual folder (aka saved search folder) is hosted in the IMAP account.

Another possibility is to see if there is a new mail alert add-on that will workaround this problem. See https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/th ... rt/?src=ss for example.

The Mailbox Alert add-on did the trick! Thank you for the suggestion :).
