copying or transferring mail files from one pc to another

Post by artfoxx »

I had a crash recently and I am trying to resurrect some email files. I found out that in a profile of the original SeaMonkey emails on the same PC I have most of the files I want to transfer. Is there an easy way to do this e.g. copy file and move it to the now new profile?
Thank you for any "by-the-numbers" solution

1. Be careful in using that other profile as you may unintentionally overwrite newer data with older data, losing more recent messages.
2. How is the account set up in SeaMonkey, as POP or IMAP?

If the account is set up as POP, see this article, which, although it refers to Thunderbird, would also be applicable for SeaMonkey message data -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... hunderbird
For a concise, less detailed version of the process, see this thread --

For an alternative approach, see tanstaafl's posts in this thread -- http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14209121

Thank you veey much for your reply and insight. As for the most recent emails they are not worth looking at!! or saving. But now I have another problem - passwords. When I see other advice to go to Tools> options> security>Passwords> view passwords> etc.
I do not have Options after tools! I have Seamonkey 2.9.4

I also tried Edit>Preferences>Privacy>Security>Passwords and saving password box was unchecked - that too didn't work because after Privavy & Security there was no Password box!

So again any "by the-numbers" solution?

Thank you again

PS I have prolblem signing in and had to re-activate my account and before that I got a temporary password but it says go to profile page to change - don't know how to get there!! what profile page?

@cqbrodie,

In SeaMonkey, go to: Tools | Password Manager | Manage Stored Passwords, in 'Search Domains' on the left, enter the address of the website and in the box above, click on the down arrow on the right and select 'Passwords only', then, in the window that opens, click on 'Show Passwords' at the bottom right.

You will find your profile in the 'User Control Panel' to which you will find a link at the top of the right-hand column.

Regards,

Dave.
