Latest upgrade question

Received notice today that my computer must be restarted to complete the latest FF upgrade.
Is this something new, no biggie as it went smoothly but usually it is not required.

No, it's not new but it IS usually required.

Restarting firefox is needed to update firefox, but usually restarting the whole computer is not.
