Mailgun and Gmail

Hello. I'm new to Thunderbird.

I run a couple of websites and I use Mailgun (free plan) for sending emails (just single emails, not bulk/mass), and Gmail for receiving emails (via an email forwarder). I've set this up within Gmail's interface.

Problem is I couldn't set it up on Thunderbird (60.6.1). Can anyone tell me how to do it, or give me a link to follow, please?

I suspect you would create a Gmail IMAP account normally using the new account wizard, exit the wizard, add a Mailgun SMTP server using tools -> account settings -> outgoing server (smtp) -> add, and then re-configure the Gmail account to use the Mailgun SMTP server.

Instead we recommend using a subdomain on Mailgun (e.g. mg.yourdomain.com)"

I figured it out.

I didn't need to set up a new account. With my existing Gmail, I just needed to Manage Identities >> Add ... then added my Mailgun username in Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings.

Whenever I send my first emails after starting TB, though, TB asks for my Mailgun password. That's what they mean with "You can find your SMTP credentials for each domain on your domains tab."

TB offers to remember this Mailgun password--is this safe? I use a password manager and would prefer apps not remembering my passwords...and considering TB bypasses Gmail's 2FA. [Edit: TB does not bypass 2FA. Sorry about that. Must have thought that after removing an account and setting it up back again. Still learning...]

Everything's been set up with my Mailgun. I just needed to translate it to TB.

You could set a master password (which is required before Thunderbird decrypts the saved passwords) but its weak. A strong solution would be to store Thunderbird's profile on a password protected encrypted partition. VeraCrypt is a good way to do that. It supports using a file as a partition, rather than forcing you to use a real partition. However if you already use a password manager such as KeyPassXC you can use it rather than the built-in password wizard if you install the KeeBird add-on at https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/th ... rd/?src=ss . It adds a hostname, URL, or email account ID to the title of the window used to prompt you for the saved password so that its recognizable by your password manager.

Thanks. I'll be sticking with the password manager (I use KeePass2). Nobody else uses my PC but I'll be looking to putting some layer of protection (online, especially) on my TB, somehow. I've actually tried VeraCrypt a couple of years ago but I didn't like it when used with cloud servers. (I opted for Cryptomator instead, which I think is great.)
