Websites that don't work well with SeaMonkey

Post by jeffw_00 »

Hi - so recently I've been running into these more frequently, I thought it would be helpful to start a list (others can add their too).

running the latest released 2.49 - I would stay away from

https://www.android.com/auto/
http://news.google.com/ - and then select a subcategory "like "U.S."

more as I run into them

[to make sure it's not the website, I then run it again with Chrome]

the issues are
a) slow loading, slow response to clicks
b) if you have a few like these open, eventually SM will crash (I get regular crashes after opening just 5 or 6 links from the google News page).

I think the problem is that for some reason SM uses a LOT of memory (over 1GB) to process these sites

(news.google.com) Loads rather poorly on my end; PM 27, PM28, SeaMonkey 2.49.4 (akin to FF 52).

Loads better in FF 61.

Also loads better in SeaMonkey 2.53.
Fire 750, bring back 250.

Oh, I guess you can add, http://www.google.com to that list too, no?

Instead of a list of websites that don't work well, which is kind of futile, maybe you should turn this into a "how i fixed" such & such a website.

www.google.com : search box is fubared : useragent change, current FF works :-)
news.google.com : pitiful in 2.49 : use 2.53, or avoid :-)
Fire 750, bring back 250.

Well, if I could fix them, I wouldn't have an issue.

Switched to 2.53 - it -is- better so far...

When I find a site that doesn't load well in SM, I generally stop using that site. When the Big G messed everything up, I Ducked out for example to DuckDuckGo (stupid name). When the Yahoos at the Hoo Mail messed up, I dramatically scaled by my usage there.

Not sure what happened to Reddit, but it doesn't load at all for me now in either SM or IE. Just stopped going there.

Reddit loads ok with SM 2.53, even the "old" Reddit site loads fine

next month in July I will permanently abandon any SM 2.49.x release I have on any of my PCs and will run SM 2.53 or 2.57

The Google news site is slow, but the Android site is fine. Not all Google sites are slow, however. Google maps on google.co.uk is fine.
