How do I eliminate what I call the bookmark line
Win 10 Pro desktop, but now 64-bit latest Windows 10. Usually latest or latest-1 Thunderbird on this machines.

What is it that you call the bookmark line? If you mean the bookmark toolbar, you can switch that off using menu path View->Toolbars->uncheck "Bookmarks Toolbar".

I suppose it is the Bookmark Separator [open and right click Bookmarks --> Select New Separator]
There is a solution posted here: https://support.mozilla.org/de/questions/953256
in short: go bookmarks > show all boomarks (or press crtl+shift+b) in order to open the library. then navigate to the folder where you're having this issue, select the separators you want to remove and press the del-key or right-click them and remove them this way...
