Thunderbird won't accept my new Google password
I have been using Thunderbird with Gmail for many years with an app specific password from Google. I just changed my Google Account password but Thunderbird won't accept it when I'm asked to input my password. Can anyone help me please?

Try deleting the old copy using tools -> options -> security -> passwords -> saved passwords, and then exit and restart Thunderbird (due to the deleted password still being in memory).
I don't know if you have to create a new app specific password if you change the google account password or not. Another possibility is that you might need to re-authorize Thunderbird using it (in your google account security settings). Google is very security conscious, sometimes annoyingly so.

Sorry, but nothing worked. Every time I try something, I end up having to change my Google Account password. BTW, is there a way to add a screenshot to a post? Thank you.

To post a pic in the forums you have to upload the pic to a hosting site. I use Imgur (https://imgur.com ). Its free. Once you sign up (which is free and immediate) you upload your screen shot. Use a pic that is around 500 or 600 pixels wide (or less). Then click on the pic after it uploads and select get share links. Under share links pick the "BBcode Forums" link and copy it. Then paste that link into your post. Use preview to verify the pic is visible in your post.

"Have you tried setting TB up to login using OAuth2 versus a password ?"
I believe that would require disabling two step verification for the google account.

More details please. Why do you need to keep changing your google account password? Does gmail webmail and a gmail app on your smartphone work okay, and the only problem is Thunderbird?
I assumed you enabled two step verification because you use gmail etc. on your smartphone, and thought you needed the extra security. Do you only use a PC/laptop?

Re: Thunderbird won't accept my new Google password
Yes I believe you are correct. I am reminded that I don't use two step verification with gmail and the reason I don't is because it was too much of a pain in the rear end using TB to access gmail with two step activation turned on. Instead of two step authentication I just set up a complex single password for my gmail account and use OAuth2 for TB to login to gmail.tanstaafl wrote:http://kb.mozillazine.org/Posting_a_scr ... _the_forum

Please tell me what OAuth2 means (what is it?). I resorted to a new app specific password for TB and it works. But I'd still like to be able to use my Google Account password.

Re: Thunderbird won't accept my new Google password
OAuth2 is a different authentication scheme for a IMAP account. It requires you to provide your password but converts that into a access token, which is what it stores and uses thereafter. It was initially just for gmail, but now yahoo supports it too.
If you use OAuth2 (and have two-step verification enabled) you need to use your app specific password with it, NOT the google account password.
