Abnormal (esr) file size jump

Post by v1adimir »

Hey, peoples, has anyone discussed the enormous file size difference which had happened between ESR versions:

1) Firefox Setup 60.7.2esr.exe, from 37.4 MB (39,268,968 bytes)
to
2) Firefox Setup 67.0.4.exe and 44.8 MB (47,026,144 bytes).

Latest Firefox Setup 68.0.1esr.exe is 45.7 MB (47,954,816 bytes), which is plus another ~megabyte - which is cool; & nothing like that huge jump, which had been:

Code: Select all

47,026,144 bytes
-
39,268,968 bytes
=
7,757,176
=
7.397 MB,
or 7.4 MB
... So, what was up with that, anybody know?! :o

EDIT: Ah, alright, I had to spell it out for myself.. Seems like it's been going around a MB in size, each advancing major version. Hm.
xD

More bloat.
More crap features.
More spyware.

Or it could have been a change in compression (or lack thereof) methodologies?
(You do realize that an uncompressed .exe installer, while increasing the file size by 8 MB, will decrease the decompression time by .001 ms. Heh, wonder why they even use an installer & just don't drop things into a non-standard lz4 file [or any kind of non-standard file type would work, say, zip, err, jar ;-)].)

Probably a combination of all of the above.
