recovering bookmarks and addresses afer crash

Post by shakushinnen »

Hi all,
I have had a crash and am not able to start my computer. I have put the hard drive into another computer, but am not sure what files to retrieve for my bookmarks and addresses; and, what to do with them.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
... john

Paying particular attention to the cloning of profiles section, which is what is required here.

I notice that sessionstore.jsonlz4 for open tabs and pinned tabs is missing in the article (see also the sessionstore-backups folder).

Put them in, please Dick.

You can have a look to see if I didn't make mistakes with updating the files list.

Many thanks, Dick. Looks OK to me.

Thanks again.

Hi Dan,
I forgot to mention that I'm trying to recover my bookmarks and addresses from a windows 7 drive, so that I can use them on Windows XP. Does that make any difference?

There are different profile folder locations on Windows XP and later versions. But perhaps of more significance, what version were you running on Windows 7? Firefox 56+ profiles may not be backwards compatible with earlier versions.

Also, what do you mean by "addresses"?

A profile used by the current 68 release (UI_VERSION = 81) is likely not compatible with Firefox 52 (UI_VERSION = 42) and a lot of migration code would have run.

You can backup the profile folder and keep it until you get a new hard drive for this computer.

You can try to ask for help on a Windows oriented forum to see if this can be fixed.

(I was going to ask about that, but I gather he is only dealing with FF 52 in all cases, only throwing Win7 into the mix because that is where he is attempting to recover his files through, & not that he is intending to "backup" from 68 to 52. Otherwise, dickvl & jscher are correct.)

Not if what I alluded to is correct.
