If on Linux, make sure you download the appropriate package from the download section.
People using Linux are going to know that either way.

Thanks.
If you are going to continue using 32-bit builds(previously the Windows version was only released as 32-bit), that is indeed all you need to do.
If you want to change over to 64-bit builds for whatever reason, you need to uninstall the existing 32-bit version before you install the 64-bit version(otherwise you wind up with two different Seamonkey installs, the 64-bit one in "C:\Program Files" and the 32-bit one in "C:\Program Files(x86)". This will provide endless opportunities for confusion and chaos.

Uninstalling the existing 32-bit Seamonkey will not delete your user profile, and the 64-bit version will pick up right where you left off, just like any other upgrade.

But you don't actually NEED to move to 64-bit builds. Unlike some platforms, there are no problems running 32-bit software in a 64-bit Windows install, and Seamonkey probably isn't hitting the 4-gigabyte memory limit that 32-bit addressing imposes.

Good info, I was about to install the 64-bit but held off for those reasons, just installed the 32-bit over the old version, thanks for confirming that if I go there the 64-bit will pick up the 32-bit profile.
@Java and Silverlight plugins still work.

Actually if it is like the Win64 Firefox 52 ESR on Windows then only the Flash Player Plugin and Silverlight will run on Win64. You need the 32-bit version on Windows to use the Java 8 and other NPAPI Plugins.

Isn't Silverlight blacklisted on x64 too? Thought only Flash was whitelisted.

How do I learn if my SM 2.49.4 is 32-bit or 64-bit?

Thanks.

about:

If, User agent:, shows WOW64, like: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.5, like yours is, then it is 32-bit.

64-bit would show Win64, like: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.5.
Fire 750, bring back 250.

Have a guess -

That's because they weren't around before.
2.49.5 is the first Windows 64 bit build, previously only the Linux OS were offered 64bit.

You are on Windows 32bit.

Frank etal, nope, My system is Windows Home 64-bit.

If I have the SeaMonkey 2.49.4 32-bit, then I have to uninstall it first...is this right?

Thanks.

In this case, then I need to uninstall SeaMonkey before upgrading...is this correct?

What is the risk to SeaMonkey staying viable on my system if do this upgrade?

I know that, it's written across the bottom of every one of your posts! - Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.4

....which also tells me...

You are on (the) Windows 32bit (version of SeaMonkey)

I'll leave you guys to it.

The WOW64 in useragent means it is a 32-bit application on 64-bit Windows. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WoW64

The Mac OSX SeaMonkey was combined 32/64 now it is 64-bit. The 64-bit Linux builds used to only be the eni-US build listed in contrib folder even though it was official. The SM 2.49.5 is the first for 64-Linux Seamonkey to be more visible in listing and with other locales besides en-US.

The 32-bit SM on Windows may be considered more stable by some as it has been around for a long time compared to Win64 SM builds.
