IS rev 60 better than 68

Post by jeffw_00 »

I'm new to TB, and downloaded the latest rev 68. However, I'm finding a lot of the "good stuff" (extensions, themes, etc) only work up to Rev 60.

Is there something I should know? Should I start with Rev. 60 for now?

Thanks

No, why would that be a question? If you are not already wedded to a set of extensions or a particular theme, the fact they are not present in 68 shouldn't be a factor. Version 68 includes fixes to things in 60 so, as a "newby" you'd be better off starting with a current version of the program.

It would be a question because I keep finding themes and appearance-related tools that i like that only work on 60 and below. Why shouldn't I use 60 until all the collateral is updated?

Because they may never be updated. Changes to the core rendering engine of the program (which it shares with Firefox) have been changed and no longer allow extensions to manipulate some portions of the program for security reasons.

For me, as of now and for the next 6 months to a year at least, the answer is yes TB 60+ is better than TB 68. None of the "improvements" in TB 68 interest me or seem required for security purposes for my uses. I much prefer to keep my investment of time into TB 60+ and the extensions/addons I want. Compared to TB 68 with stuff I don't need and/or want and without the extensions/addons I prefer.
