Silverlight in 2.49.5?

Post by apearlma »

Did silverlight support get removed for 2.49.5? Or do I need to turn it on again somehow?

Thanks!

WFM, I tested on that 'bubble' page.. http://bubblemark.com/silverlight2.html (32bit SM)

Java works too.

Flash and Silverlight plugins works with SeaMonkey 2.49.5 but under 64-bit only these two (support for others like Java were removed for SM x64). If you need to use other plugins (like Java) then stay with 32-bit version of SeaMonkey.

If you are on macOS this might be the problem. The new version is x64 only and no longer a unified build. I am not sure if Silverlight on macOS is available or works with a pure x64 version.

Only the 64-bit or Win64 for Windows allows the Flash and Silverlight Plugins to run with gecko 52 ESR.

Oh! I'm sorry. I thought "SeaMonkey" is implied subject in above sentence and "under 64-bit" refers to 64-bit version of SeaMonkey, not Windows. And I thought that all 32-bit programs are running with WOW64:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WoW64

Summary (for other users who may be confused):
1) both 32-bit and 64-bit versions SeaMonkey can run Flash and Silverlight,
2) only 32-bit version of SeaMonkey can run additional plugins (like e.g. Java, PDF),
3) 32-bit version of SeaMonkey installed on 64-bit Windows is using WoW64 (see: URL above),
4) 64-bit version of SeaMonkey can be installed on Win7 64-bit or newer only.
5) in general, term "x64" is for 64-bit programs and term "x86" is for 32-bit programs:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86-64
Official download page is using x64 and x86 terms:

Let's try again.

Since the 2.49.5 is basically based on the same gecko as Firefox 52 ESR was.

Win64 Firefox 52 only allowed the 64-bit Flash Player and Silverlight Plugins (NPAPI) to run, that is what you are thinking of. While the 32-bit and 64-bit versions for Mac OSX and Linux allowed all of the usual NPAPI Plugins you could run and was not limited to only Flash Player and Silverlight for 64-bit builds like the case for Win64.

Also the OP is on 64-bit Mac OSX 10.14 and not Windows.

The reporter seeom to be on macOS so Windows restrictions do not apply:
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.14; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.4

As stated 2.49.5 is no longer a unified build there which might have caused it. If it caused by this it will unfortunately not be fixed because we are now doing the macOS version under Linux same as mozilla does with Firefox.

I thought there is only x64 version for macOS:

Yes, I didn't look at UserAgent, just post text.

Looks like it's not supported anymore:

fyi, Silverlight will soon be completely discontinued by MS in October 2021 as noted here.
is there a very good reason why you should use it, apearlma?
