Up-to-date T-bird yet 1 profile wants to update

Post by WildcatRay »

I recently updated to the 64-bit build of T-bird (currently 68.1.1), I have multiple profiles. I uninstalled the 32-bit I was using.

One profile keeps popping up the door hanger saying T-bird is not up-to-date and asking me to manually download the update. When I go to About T-bird, it correctly shows the build is up-to-date. What do I have to look for or do to correct this?

I should know this evening if the fixes from the article worked.

Followed the directions of the KB article, yet the one profile still thinks it needs up update t-bird. I think my next step is to blow that profile away and recreate it.

Version 68 can insist of creating a new profile due to changes made in the Mozilla software library. The intent was to better support users that had multiple installations (separate profile for release, beta and daily builds) and allow the Firefox developers to start dropping support for backwards compatibility.

You won't always run into this problem. In some cases its due to Thunderbird not distinguishing between "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)" on Windows when checking the install directory. The normal workaround is to add a -allow-downgrade command line argument in the shortcut, to use an older profile. If necessary also add a -p "path" command line argument where "path" is the complete path to the desired profile. That bypasses using profiles.ini to specify what profile to use.

It appears it was something in the specific profile. I made a backup of the equivalent profile on my other computer that did not exhibit the problem, did a restore from that copy to the profile on the computer I am using now and have not seen the issue yet.
