Suggest a free photo retoucher like Picasa (healing brush)
Picasa has been discontinued for a while, but it has a decent retouch function similar to "healing brush". This function replaces an area with not an exact copy of another area, but with part of the donor area combined with the area to fix. Since Picasa doesn't get updates it might be nice to have an alternative. Looking for something easy to learn.

Try paint.net its free
https://www.getpaint.net/download.html
make sure you use the free download link and not the Microsoft store one
There is also Gimp for Windows very powerful but more of a learning curve

If you know it already, then stick with Picasa. Most good graphics programs are actually the older versions anyway.kerft wrote:Since Picasa doesn't get updates it might be nice to have an alternative. Looking for something easy to learn.
Gimp has a Resyn....? feature that does this, but it's a truly dreadful program. The best program for this is Inpaint (*cough* the portable version) and it's very easy to use, i.e. 30 seconds and -
The original has a massive chimney to the left of that centre building, reaching up into those red/black clouds. If I was doing this properly, I'd then upload this into my main graphics program and spend a couple of minutes with a blender brush.
Btw paint.net is good to have as a general backup program.

...not really that an exacting task, but taking only 40 seconds to alter an image like that, is. As you may tell, I haven't used Inpaint in a while, so I'm playing around with it again.

TeoRex Software is a bad compromise. Even my old PaintShop v7 could do better with the clone brush.
go visit or bookmark http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/ to grab the full version from time to time.
anyhow there exist no software for Greta to look better >:>

Here you go, you have exactly 30 seconds, no more, to do better -Brummelchen wrote:TeoRex Software is a bad compromise. Even my old PaintShop v7 could do better with the clone brush.

i did not say faster - i' said better. teorex is limited and thats matter of experience. on the other hand the teorex stitcher is smarter but for really large images i stick with ptgui - ptgui never crashed while teorex got stuck in time and another one crashed maybe because of bad memory management. there had been a reason why teorex is giving away its software so often (to say that teorex software is not for free)

OK, so let's see you do it better then.Brummelchen wrote:i did not say faster - i' said better.
Yeah because panorama stitching programs is really on-topic for this thread. Did you think I wouldn't notice if you changed the subject?Brummelchen wrote:on the other hand the teorex stitcher is smarter but for really large images i stick with ptgui
The OP wanted free and the portable version of Inpaint is exactly that.Brummelchen wrote:(to say that teorex software is not for free)
As people may be able to tell, I've dealt with 'spoiler posts' before.

Inpaint Software is not for free, maybe Online-Inpaint
and online inpaint is limited
your image(s) - can you post the original please?
for greta you can see the limits of teorex - if it was covered with inpaint.
the test case images on teorex pages are "optimized" for advertisement.
see https://www.theinpaint.com/
if some dont know about the original then you dont search for mismatches. the image with eiffel tower is a good example how it worked an experienced eye would recognise it. the boy has too much light and shadow to work with, the b/w could be luck, but as i wrote those are well chosen examples. the Greta image is more reality (if it was done with inpaint). teorex is limited and one of the limits are diagonal lines, only capable to clone horizontal or vertical. thats also reason why hand made corrections are not cheap.
About Inpaint - Inpaint never was portable, so i assume no trustable source for it
ofc i have too, my own build - just4fun, but sharing would be illegal.
no portable in sight - sorry.

and online inpaint is limited
what i want you to tell with the stitcher that teorex is nice, but for not for better results - and same for inpaint. all from my view of experience with teorex.Top Reasons to use Desktop version:
No need internet access (Offline mode)
No limitations by image size
No limitations by file size
No limitations by image count
One time fee

Talk is cheap, the whole Net is full of it.
It really is a very simple request.
