I updated to tb 68.2.2. I have a backup of tb from 2 weeks ago which is v60. But I'm unable to restore it. I go to profile manager to create a new profile which I named 'old'. Then I copy the contents of my backup profile to the new profile folder. But when I start the profile manager and choose 'old', it starts it as tb v68.2.2. Am I doing something wrong here??
.
How Do I Restore TB from v68.2.2 to v60?

It's not clear from your post what it was that you backed up 2 weeks ago. Was it just the Thunderbird profile ( http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird ) or that Thunderbird program or both. If you only backed up the profile ( http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup ), restoring that doesn't change the version of the program involved as the Thunderbird installation exists in 2 separate location on the hard drive.

You updated the application to 68.2.2, then wanted to use the old profile for version 60, but didn't uninstall 68.2.2 and reinstall 60.9.1?
Then you probably ran into Dedicated Profiles per installation, and Thunderbird is starting version 68.2.2 with its dedicated profile.

It was the profile alone.DanRaisch wrote:It's not clear from your post what it was that you backed up 2 weeks ago. I'm confused. So if the version doesnt change whats the point in restoring an old backup?? I dont get it.restoring that doesn't change the version of the program involved as the Thunderbird installation exists in 2 separate location on the hard drive.

The profile contains only user data like bookmarks, browsing history, saved passwords, etc and is by default is located under C:\Users\<Windows login/user name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile folder>. The profile folder does not contain the program files. Those are stored under C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox or C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox.
Restoring an old backup of a profile can bring back user data lost due to a crash or unintentional deletion of data.
To update from one version of Firefox to another it is necessary to run the installer program (.exe file) for the desired version. The installer for version 60.9ESR is available here -- http://download-origin.cdn.mozilla.net/ ... 60.9.0esr/
