Hi,
Despite a warning that it does not support my browser (version 2.53.1 beta 1) I installed Image Blocker 2.1, which does what I wanted (blocks YouTube popups). It, however, does something else, it loads a blank page on startup, instead of https://duckduckgo.com/
I have tried "Manage Popups" but none of my efforts have fixed the issue.
Any suggestions are appreciated. I can easily hit the 'open a new tab' button which loads duckduckgo, so this is NOT an urgent issue.
Thanks,
...... john

Re: Loading Home Page on startup
Hi therube,
The URL is my home page <https://duckduckgo.com/>. I don't know if it works with 2.49. I like 2.53 and will continue hitting the 'open with new tab' button if it comes to going back to 2.49. It's not that big a deal.
Thanks,

Menu -> Edit -> Preferences -> Browser ->in field "Display on [ ]" choose "New Tab" and "Home Page" below -> in field "Clicking the Home button takes you to this group of pages", type/paste URL in white space or click "Use Current Page" button if such webpage is opened in active window/tabshakushinnen wrote:The URL is my home page <https://duckduckgo.com/>. IMHO it doesn't make sense to open "home page" on remote server (like DDG) for every new tab. If you need quick access to DDG then bookmark it, place it high on you bookmarks' list (to make it visible when you'll click Bookmarks from Menu) and open in new tab using middle mouse button or CTRL+LBM or RMB + context menu.
This method works only when you have some page opened and blank page ("about:blank") is not "real" webpage. That's why I'm using "about:mozilla" as my home page (instead of blank page).
You can start using search engin (like DuckDuckGo) from Browser's Address Bar - simply type text of query, hit arrow-up button, and CTRL+Enter. It'll open new tab with your query in search engine webpage (works with blank page).

Hi,
Yes, that worked well. I didn't realize I could start a search from the address bar. Or, hit the search bar and bring up DDG.
Thanks,

(I had meant the URL to Image Blocker 2.1.)

Hi therube,
Oops! The URL on on the installation (in the add-ons Manager) is
http://hemantvats.com/imageblock; but I actually got it from searching for 'block pop ups" in the add ons manager, and this is the URL it directed me to
https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/se ... /versions/

Re: Loading Home Page on startup
My notes on that, from some time back (& can't say I recall specifics), & with SeaMonkey 2.4.x (or before ?) said:
breaks:
- help about (looks to work in 2.49.5, perhaps it was when the dialog popped up in its own window?)
- external links (perhaps that was from, say a stand-alone application, like Eudora mail)
& maybe more

Confirmed in 2.49.5.it loads a blank page on startup
