Will SeaMonkey be safe to use after the demise of W7 security updates?
I have no intention of throwing out a proper Windows product in exchange for bright buttons and touch screens.
Can programmers of browsers, as well as anti-virus and anti-malware developers, take up the slack?
I just got the notice, so I assume billions of others are blindsided as well..?...

I wouldn't worry about SeaMonkey since Windows 7 won't be safe to use.Johnfull wrote:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows ... nformation

- First, upgrade to SeaMonkey 2.49.5
And then, throw away that WindoZe crap, and install GNU/Linux.

Re: The end of desktop as we know it...
I plan to keep the computer with W7 and use a smaller one with W10.
I installed FireFox on the new one and will keep my SeaMonkey POP email on the old one.
Maybe I can open my email on the new one with the web access and then download to the old one as an archive?
Is it safe to have even that limited amount of online exposure with an antiquated and insecure W7?

Re: The end of desktop as we know it...
upgrade to either unofficial Seamonkey 2.53.x from wg9s or official SM 2.53.1 beta 1 when the latter comes out since either one can run with at least Win7 SP1.
oh and while Win7 support may end on Jan. 14, 2020 for most people, a few others using at least Win7 Pro (Ultimate users included too) can pay for "extended security updates" that can be installed beyond that EOL date or could use this unofficial workaround to install new Win7 updates after 1/14/2020

Yes! SeaMonkey security patches are handled by the people developing SeaMonkey (Not M$)Johnfull wrote:Will SeaMonkey be safe to use after the demise of W7 security updates?
Even Windows 7 will not be immediately vulnerable (at least, any more than Windows is normally) when M$ support ends on 14-Jan-2020. I advise anyone running Windows to move to a secure and supported operating system as soon as practical (e.g.: GNU/Linux or BSD - Personally, I run Debian or FreeBSD depending on the situation).
