Problem with playing streaming video

Post by JerGid »

I recently updated my windows 7 64 computer to windows 10. Since the upgrade I am having trouble playing streaming video. Regardless of the site the videos will not load or play. After a few minutes of waiting a message appears saying, "If playback doesn't begin shortly, try restarting your device." If I shutdown Firefox and then restart and restore the session, video will play without a problem. I have tested videos with Microsoft Edge and they always play without a problem.

I am using Firefox 72.0.1 64 bit Portable.

Moving to Firefox Support as no specific bug has yet been identified here.

Did you check the Web Console for possible related messages ?

No videos play. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it still didn't work. I tried installing the non portable version and it didn't work, either. I tried the console and got this message.

MouseEvent.mozPressure is deprecated. Use PointerEvent.pressure instead. base.js:1132:334
Autoplay is only allowed when approved by the user, the site is activated by the user, or media is muted. base.js:5247:33

The video keeps trying to load, but will never play.

404 is a "not there" kind of message.
Now I don't know if that means that (seemingly) the particular video clip is not there, or if this .js is not there, or just what?

Does this video play for you (open it in a new tab), http://mirrors.standaloneinstaller.com/ ... /small.mp4?
Or this, http://mirrors.standaloneinstaller.com/ ... /grb_2.mp4?
Fire 750, bring back 250.

No. No videos from anywhere will play. If I try to play a video it will not load. If I close the browser, open it up again, and restore the previous session the video that I was trying to play previously will play just fine, but the next video that I try to watch will not play until I close, open, and restore the session again. It is the same with both the portable, stand-alone version of Firefox and the standard version. Microsoft Edge has no problem. I have not tried any other browsers.

Do you see the auto-play icon on the location bar ?

Do you allow auto-play for the YouTube website (Tools -> Page Info -> Permissions) ?

Autoplay is set to default. There is no auto-play icon showing in the location bar.

When a video won't play what happens if you refresh the page (F5) instead of exiting and reloading FFox?

It reloads the page. When I click the play button it spins and spins but never plays. It doesn't even look like the video is loading.

Call it what you want, but to me, it plays.

Create a new, clean Profile - make no changes.
Load this page, try to open the two video links pointed to.

Do they play?
Play repeatedly.
After starting.
After clearing cache.
In a new tab.
In a new window.
After opening other sites. ...
Fire 750, bring back 250.

I created a new, clean profile. I tried to open the two videos.
1. They do not play.
2. They do not play repeatedly.
3. They do not play after starting.
4. They do no play after clearing cache.
5. They do not plan in a new tab.
6. They do not play in a new window.
7. I tried closing the browser, reopening it and restoring tabs and they still would not play.
8. I opened the links in Microsoft Edge and they both played perfectly.

You can create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

I created a new profile yesterday as instructed by "therube" (above) and it didn't help any. Do you really want me to do it again?
