"how old is your computer?"
2 years, 5 months. AMD Ryzen 7 1800X (8 core) with 16GB memory
"What icons were removed and windows closed?"
I got different results this time. This is the third time I've tried it.
It removed the events&tasks menu item, and closed the tasks window. After restarting the tasks and calendar icons on the far right are still there. After a second restart the calendar window is closed. F11 has no effect. If I click on the calendar icon to the far right that opens the calendar tab with both calendars disabled. F11 now toggles the today pane.

No, I'm not worried about resources, just annoyed at how much bloat Lightning adds. Thunderbird now uses twice the memory that "em client" does (another email client with built-in calendar support) for example.

So does this mean that the next Thunderbird release will be "broken" (68.6 = 74.0) and not fixed until the next release (68.7 = 75.0)?
68.6 is not 74.0, neither is 68.7 equal to 75.0.
Version 75.0b1 may be available sometime next week.
Thank you for this information and clearing this up for me.

Sorry guys, I was waiting for an email to say that this forum thread had an update, but nothing appearedWaltS48 wrote:I guess plittlefield has left the building.
I was testing the 74.0b2 release candidate earlier on Windows and Linux.
The steps to disable calendar are still not implemented.
Those steps would be to:
Not sure if a restart is needed at this time.
- Select the Calendar in the Calendar List
Right click and Select "Properties"
Remove the check mark for "Switch this calendar on"
Click "OK"
Anyway, many thanks for all your comments and suggestions.
I'm on 75.0b1 and was able to turn off the 'Events and Tasks' menu item by following the above quoted instructions.
During this process, I found out I had 2 really really really old calendars which I had forgotten about, and when I disabled them the menu item went away.
Just my imagination, but TB seemed to start a bit quicker.
Thanks everyone!
Paully
